    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Below is a picture of the rebuild kit. This one came from Cliff’s Performance and contains some parts not included with some of the more cheap kits. In the rebuild section of the book, Cliff reseats the check ball into the casting for the accelerator pump. This was not something I’ve ever...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

IT appears to be a breather of some sort for the flywheel housing. See image below. Obviously this is not available. Like I said, just use regular rubber tubing, or nothing at all. This is definitely not in an alpha drive, trust me, we’d know. The starter gear housing on a Mercruiser is not...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

Not really familiar with the OMC, but it looks like this is a sealed coupler to the engine that is offset from the starter gear, unlike mercruiser setups that are directly bolted to the gear. Is that housing filled with lube, or is this a breather tube? Either way, it looks like you could use...

Help with lraw water cooling. Having trouble identifying a part.

The spacer or bushing I think you are referring to comes with a new hose. You would need to know the serial number of the engine to get this hose. The one pictured might be right as I entered your year and engine size.

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Check the side play and clearance of the primary throttle plate shaft. Cliff’s Performance offers a special drill and bushing kit to repair a worn casting. I didn’t need to do that as mine is pretty tight. Make sure the idle discharge holes and off idle ports are clear. Again, I used the G...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Rebuild the throttle plate first as you’ll want to secure the base to it when installing all the other parts, holding everything securely. A suggestion from Cliff Ruggles was to slot the idle mixture screws so they can be adjusted easily with a flat blade screw driver. Late model QJs required...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

One of the other problems with my oem carb was that following some bad advice I received from a National Carburetor tech, I went on a search for an Adjustable Part Throttle valve or APT screw. This sent me on a wild goose chase and eventually led me to open a knockout in the air horn casting...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

I bought the bottom plug kit from Cliff’s Performance specifically because I couldn’t clear a blockage in one of the idle tubes. The kit comes with set screws to use as plugs and MarineTex. in order to clear the blockage I needed to drill the smaller front plugs in the main body. This well...

Chaparral 2000 SL Sport floor, and more?? [SPLASHED Sept 2017]

Sadly once again we have reached the end of swimming season here in South Central PA- Central Maryland- West Virginia Pan Handle. Temps in the low 60’s with overnight temps in the upper 30’s. Back in the body of this thread and a few years ago in time, I had replaced the oem Quadrajet with a...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Remove the two idle mixture screws from the throttle plate. It a good practice to count the number of turns it takes to lightly seat the screws. This is where we would want to set the screws on reassembly. Remove the 4 screws securing the large air door flaps. Unhook the air door tension...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

To continue the year down, slowly lift out the float hanger and fuel valve float assembly. Remove the accelerator pump ball check retainer and ball. I use a magnetic screwdriver so the ball sticks to the retainer. Remove the gasket if not already removed on the bottom of the throttle...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

So I’m continuing with the year down. As posted before, I have abandoned the idea of tuning an inferior remanufactured carb in favor of rebuilding the oem Quadrajet. So for the year down, I already covered removing the air horn. Below is the base with the gasket still in place. Remove the...

    Getting new stringers engine install

The rear bolts that thread into the transom plate will align the motor from side to side. Purchase an alignment bar to ensure your height is perfect, otherwise you’ll fight getting the driveshaft in and potentially ruin the coupler. You can get them from iBoats. See below. Buy one of these...

The transom requirements are in the attached image. SeaCast is great stuff and 100% waterproof and this rot proof. Buddy of mine fixed his rotted motor mounts By removing all the wood and filling them with SeaCast. Just don’t be shocked by the price. The stuffs NOT cheap. Scotts right...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Since I decided to keep the old carburetor in lieu of returning it for the core fee, a have a good sample from which to compare. In a comparison, I found that the primaries in the remanufactured carb do not open as far as the oem at the point the secondaries begin to open. I used a drill bit as...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

Now that the carb is off there was a few things I wanted to check. Number one was to look at the fuel filter. This is behind the Fuel inlet and the cap is removed with a 1” wrench. There is a spring behind the filter. Simple stuff first. Since the air horn and gasket is removed you can see...

96 Bayliner 2050 - The Dirty Rotten Baystard

Was a nice day, I just got back from the Potomac an hour or so ago. We always stay for the sunsets. Besides the ramp is less busy in the evening. Water was still 76, so not too bad!!

BTW, I just upload photos right to the forum from my iPhone. I rarely if at all use a PC. I have to resize them to 1200 x 1600 using the app below. This way I can still have the full size image stored if I ever need it. I haven’t had any issues at all imbedding pictures in my posts after the...

    Rochester Quadrajet Rebuild and Adjustments

All the bolts are now removed, just a few more linkages and the air horn will be free. Remove the retaining clip from the upper choke door linkage. With the choke doors completely open the linkage can be removed from the arm. Holding the choke lever on the base fully clockwise will raise...
