Those tilted forward Powerheads, also have their Carbs facing slightly downward, while this may be great for having fuel spill in the the lower cowl, and in the water instead of puddling at the back of the Carb-Reed Block, it also, depending of the Carb Design, can make setting the Float in the...

    Transom replacement or design flaw?

Actually that plywood doesn't look as bad as a lot I have seen. I will assume that the Boat was from the 70s, maybe early 80s, so 45+ years. Another piece of Marine Plywood, will probably outlast most of us on this Board Doubt there is any Advantage to adding a Knee, if 5hp is all you plan to use

    Few questions.

Looking at the bottom Picture, I think someone took that linkage apart, and put it together wrong, mainly that Tilt lock(#47), looks like it should be turned around. Installed as it is, it is preventing the Lock/Unlock Lever(#66) from moving However, what Motor do you have? That would make it...

    Gph at various rpm...thoughts?

Here is some of the Mercury Documentation of the Prototype Black Max compared to the I6 1972 1400. The 72 1400 had better Hole Shot than the I6 1500 that followed in 73

    Gph at various rpm...thoughts?

It took a little less than a 1/2 hour to burn through the 5 Gal(Imp) Tank. I guess that would be about 13 1/2 gal(US)/hr. It got about 4mph at WOT, it was really good at about 38 mph, a Tank would last over an hour All the Motors I listed above were Broken in by myself and were in good...

    Gph at various rpm...thoughts?

1982 was the year Mercury started Prop Rating Engines larger than the 50 cubic inches. There have been rumours for Decades that in 82, Mercury rebranded the 115 as a 90, and the 140 as a 115, the 175 as a 150, the 200 as a 175, and the 225 as a 200. Maybe, maybe not, as the Specified Rpm Ranges...

To us more aged Posters, setting the Coke is so natural to us, we don't even consider it Mentionable... I do find it very Entertaining when the Younger Generation tries starting a Car/Truck/Boat with a Carb....

    Is 40 lbs pressure enough?

In one you say "didn’t see water from Pete hole after 30 seconds " The next you say "stared engine in less then 30 seconds water was coming out telltale" Which is it?

    new carb

I don't know if Mercruiser offered the 302 in a 4bbl. A Holley 2bbl 500cfm is pretty the perfect size for a 302 spinning up to 5000rpm, which is far higher than the Marine 302s ever turned

    Is 40 lbs pressure enough?

How long is that Hose? Was it completely Kink Free? 40 psi, as mentioned above is Meaningless, if the Flow is very low And now for the Rest of the Story.... Any other work done to the Engine?

JC Tritoon . Does anyone know why JC doesn't have a Dealership out west ?

Most are far too Tax Friendly to Business. Businesses and their Parasitic Owners, should be paying for all the Infrastructure their Business require, not the General Population.

    Transom Wood Selection

Marine Grade Plywood inside and out, is the way to go. Sealed with Epoxy, it should last at least a couple of Decades

Starting your car in this cold weather.

I have several GM Manuals from the 70s and 80s, and I have never seen that in any of them. Some do say to make sure all lights, external and internal, are off.
