    1973 ISLANDER REFIT

Don't know what type of plastic planks you are talking about, but the ones on my dock are going south. They are the ribbed type and they are swelling in spots and feel soft. I wouldn't touch them on a boat. They do make an engineered board for that purpose, just can't think of what it's called...

    Is there any hope???

Quote: think about cars and trucks, most of us wouldn't buy a 20+ year old car or truck and expect it to be usable, for daily use. : Unquote Well I do. I'd take my 1999 jeep anywhere I'd please. No worries if properly maintained. Now a 20+ year old boat.... Totally different story. It's more...

Lost Propulsion! Need Help! Reply ASAP!!

Being your first boat, and wanting to take customers out is not a good combo for a beginner. Regardless, get the boat out and check the drive for lots of metal shavings. Just a guess here but possibly you blew the upper drive.

    Running wires under hull

Help me understand how to wire a shoreline float switch....

You can wire the float to the battery switch itself, on the hot side of of wich ever battery is the house battery. Doing it that way you eliminate the cluster of wires going to the battery. Makes for a much cleaner setup,

Need guidance about water tank on Crest pontoon houseboat

You need to replace that mess with some pex plumbing. Looks like some of that is garden hose. Not designed for drinking water or permanent installations. Also that wire nut is a no-no. Abyc standards don't allow them on boats. They can vibrate loose and cause a short, and are not water...

Did you replace the lower shift cable? If it hangs up at all you can't adjust it properly. Shooting ideas out here.

    7.4L Impeller replacement attempt

There won't be oil in the unit, very few things are shipped with oil. You put it in. Loose washer? Tighten the bolt? Or is it on a mounting bolt? A pic would help. They are hard to turn as you have to move the impeller, and fuel pump at the same time. That belt does a lot of work. I personally...

Considering moving and changing my type of boat(ing) and want opinions

I live in the apostle Islands area, lake superior. On a good day I'll take out the 17' bowrider and go for a cruise. Have to be careful as the weather can change up here in a heartbeat. I use that boat on smaller lakes also. Other days I take out the 21' deep v and it is still rough at times...

    7.4L Impeller replacement attempt

When doing the impellers, I cut the heads off of a couple of longer bolts, put them across from each other and install housing. Then the other bolts lune up much easier. Then remove the cut off bolts and put the real ones in.

    Hydrolocked in the parkinglot

No, don't use locktite on the drive nuts. If they are worn, you replace them.

They stay open. Most grease zerks are open, wouldn't hurt to put caps on them. I'd think the caps would fall off on the u-joints from spinning around that fast.

Do you have a shut off valve in the air line? With a regulater like that it will hold the pressure as thats what regulaters do.

Need guidance about water tank on Crest pontoon houseboat

Look for filters in the lines. I've seen them so plugged up water can't flow. Usually there is one before the pump, sometimes there is a bigger one somewhere in the system for the drinking water side. And possibly a check valve someplace?

Is the rig new to you? Seems someone has been messing with the plumbing.

    Hydrolocked in the parkinglot

Don't know why you would hammer in anything without knowing what it does.... Regardless, make sure the area is clean and jb weld it. Don't know if it goes to the oil side of the unit but at least make sure its sealed. I'd do a pressure check once assembled.
