    73 Sea Ray restoration

I installed the used ram that I got and finally no more leaks! I have some other issues with the controls not working properly that I am trying to sort out I have a thread about that in the mercruiser page. Other than that I built new panels for the sides. I wanted to get a lot more intricate...

    Tilt/Trim backwards

How are you all doing today, I have a 73' 140 mercruiser with mc-1 drive and the black prestolite pump. I have the tilt/trim hooked up working and not leaking finally. I changed all the wire ends on the 3 button panel and pump side one at a time so I do not believe its a circuit issue...

Near Miss with Cutoff Wheel - Hull Cut

Oscillating tools work great for removing stuff. Although cutoff wheels also work great for boats and for making you realize the kids took all the bandaids and you need to find the duct tape 😅. (Experience has shown me this). Just make sure the tool is unplugged when not in use. I know its...

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

If you go that route check out a arduino microchip. They are not expensive and you can program it to do just about anything you can think of. I bought one a few years back to spend time and teach my son about building things. They are pretty cool just to mess around with i was contemplating...

    Transom Leak Help

The glass can still be solid for the stringers and the core rotted. Unless the glass is structural with a foam core. Is it coming in from the keyhole or actually through the transom?

fleetform 1958 restoration tips and parts

Depending on what parts it will probably be next to impossible to find original. May get lucky on ebay or a place that sells used parts. Expect it to cost some money though. I wanted to make my 73 all original with the interior gauges accessories etc. I quickly gave up. Are you looking for...

Near Miss with Cutoff Wheel - Hull Cut

I would fill it with some hairy thickened resin, then do 2 layers of 1708 first one covering the gouge then the 2nd extending over that. I had a crack in my hull around the same area. After grinding it out I did the same repair on the inside. Since mine went all the way through I also had...

    Transom Leak Help

Below the transom plate looks like the glass is cracked and starting to delaminate. If it isn't leaking through a bellow chances are its leaking from the housing. If that is the case the motor needs to come out along with the everything off the back to replace the seal. Not sure about volvos...

    Transom Leak Help

By the pictures looks like the transom is rotted. Possible that when you bottomed the out drive with a soft transom that the gimbal may have moved and broke the seal.

    Floor Joint Design?

If you put flotation foam under the floor that should support the joint. When you tab in the edges run a strip across the joints then glass the deck. Should be more than adequate for a butt joint

    73 Sea Ray restoration

I haven't been getting to much done. Im back on overtime at work so im slowly plugging away at some of the stuff after work. Right now I am working in the interior. I have the carpet glued down and am working on getting the edges all cleaned up and trimmed. I have the port side done...

    Floor Joint Design?

I did as stated above also. When I filled my screw holes and the pour holes for my foam with PB I pushed some in between the joints. I used a bondo spreader to go a few inches past the joint on each side to fill in any minor difference between the 2 pieces. I just used the left overs from the...

Help! 1976 Mark Twain restore it or junk it?!?

Some call me pessimistic but I do not believe costs are coming down. Once people paid the current prices they will not go down. They know people need it and are willing to pay so why drop the price. Other than that, restoring a boat is not a way to get a return on your investment but than...

Help! 1976 Mark Twain restore it or junk it?!?

I poured 2lb in the open cavities between the stringers on mine. I thought flotation foam was required by the USCG on boats smaller than 26' or am I wrong on that?

Help! 1976 Mark Twain restore it or junk it?!?

If you find another hull you may have the same issues, possibly just delayed by a few years. I thought about it on my restore also, but ultimately went with rebuilding. I figured a little more money up front will save money in the long run. The hull once rebuilt will outlast any hull you...

    1986 Aries bass boat renovation

Welcome, If the stringers are gone more than likely the transom is too. If you are that deep in, I would replace the transom anyway. Peace of mind and there is no point in doing it again in a few years when the transom is soft. Post pictures of the boat to help when it comes to answers or...

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Not much to update. I had to install a new trim hose manifold on the gimbal to fix the leak. The threads were to far gone to get a good seal. Once that was installed I was good to go, or not. When I ran the pump I saw a steady stream shooting out of the ram, so need a new one of those...

    Repairing floor & stringers - 1978 Sunray SW150

Welcome, with enough time, money, and knowledge everything is repairable. You provide the time and money, the forum can provide the knowledge 😛. As others have stated it looks like a complete gut of all wood. Read the pinned threads at the top of the forum and also watch some videos on...

    73 Sea Ray restoration

Well I spent the last 2 days playing with the trim pump. Was not getting it to do anything, so I had to rewire the switch. Then was getting power but nothing. I ended up tearing the motor apart and cleaning it out and using some 00 sandpaper to make her all shiney on the inside. Hooked it...

    73 Sea Ray restoration

I have a buddy that owns an exhaust shop I am going to have him bend me some up that will work. None of the stores around me had anything outside of 90s and 45s. I am to impatient for ordering anything. I didnt take any pictures but the filler went lower than the horizontal run almost like...
