Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Sunday Update . . . I got one of the helm bases done . . . . . Here is the seat put together . . . . . . . I'll be working on the remaining helm seat later today. Then it is a matter of installing them all in the boat. 🤪

Re-upholstery Job on Cruisers Yacht 338 Bowrider

Update . . . I am working on the helm seat bases, which are the last pieces to be made. There are flip-up bolsters, which are a 'boxed' type of cover. I really had to heat the vinyl skin up with steam on these covers to get them on, since the cover needs to stretch a bit in order to get a...

Are you sending the cushions out to an upholstery shop or DIY?

    Chapparal 206 cushion removal

Some cushions are not screwed in from behind, but are mounted with 'Z' brackets and hold-down straps. If you can see a metal plate/strap right below the cushion, then it is a fair bet that the cushion is held on that way.

    marine plywood.

As far as wood . . . I have found that exterior grade is fine for rebuilds. The glue is all the same for . . . Marine - Exterior - Exposure1 grades. The main difference is in the quality of the veneers. I think a local lumber yard that can get marine grade, will do a better job in getting you...

Smell from head / cabin area

Common to have odors coming from the head . . . yes. Foral? . . . no. As you guessed, probably something that is masking either a mildew smell or a toilet smell. You may want to air out the cabin for a while and then see if you can isolate the smell. Also in the process you may discover the...

Newer Mercruiser Cooling System Questions . . .

It is interesting . . . Sort of a different twist from the GM block approach. The t-stat is up at the heat exchanger so the flow gets a little interesting. The raw water cooled version have the t-stat in the crossover itself. I know with my GM 454's and closed cooling the exhaust manifolds...

    H260 seat flew out

Greetings and welcome to iBoats . . . We have not seen your boat seat, but will keep looking. Your first call may be to Four Winns to see if they can do anything (re-make). A second option would be a local upholstery shop could probably re-make the cushion. Was it a filler cushion or a...

How Far Can an Electric Truck Tow?

I do hope that the heavy use of fossil fuels continues for a while as my retirement portfolio is a little too heavy on petroleum stocks, and I’ll need more time to diversify 🤣

How Far Can an Electric Truck Tow?

As far as infrastructure to support a new transportation technology, the world has been 'down that road' a hundred years ago in the early days of the automobile. Think of all the things that were not in place then and had to be figured out. Gas stations, roads, traffic control...

    $2500 boat

Yes, a 5-day weekend. Plan on about 2 weeks end-to-end, as you will run into issues and have to figure things out and may need to buy a few bits and pieces.

How Far Can an Electric Truck Tow?

According to a few articles, (Car and Driver, etc) the range while towing is going to be less than half of the published range. (so call it 100 miles or less). Lots of things to be worked out regarding electric vehicles, which some of the post have touched upon. If there were a retreat to...

Looking at a boat with Volvo power

@NHGuy . . . where you been? What are you buying? It would be best to get a boat with the proper engine setup rather than buy something just to swap the engine. Winnipesaukee? Lots and lots of boats there.

    $2500 boat

Is it Michigan Motorz the website? They, along with Doug Russell and Marine Engines are probably the 3 go-to places for a new engine. @SavinRaven You'll have that $7500 boat in no time :D

    Cracked Block Replacement

Welcome to iBoats . . . $3,200 sounds a bit pricey for a boat that needs and engine. Price out what a 5.0 marine long block would be and then factor in some $,$$$ for your time and risk. I know that boats are tough to come by recently, but is this your best course of action, all costs...

Bought a new long block and wondering about the coupling and gimbal bearing.

As far as cylinder heads, my previous 454 engines had the #10114156 cylinder heads on them. I believe they are used in some automotive applications and are also found in marine applications. Listings of the head casting mostly say '1991 and up', but do not say specifically 'marine'. I think...
