Buying a boat that’s sat for 5 years

You came looking for advice (right?) Don't get into an argument with the seller over value on this boat. Since it has not been run/used in 5 years, everything is suspect. Let someone else throw their money away on this gamble. The seller has an ego issue about the boat, let it be his...

Buying a boat that’s sat for 5 years

If you are looking for a project? . . . sure . . . but $8,500 would not be the price. Cracks around the transom would be indicative of some structural issues. It does not sound like this is what you are looking for.

    Joist hanger help please

Google . . . Simpson Strong-Tie HS24 18-Gauge Galvanized Saddle Rafter Tie That should do the trick. As an added measure of safety I'd also loop some long 'straps' around the the ends of the 4x4, tieing them up to the 2x joists.

Building a larger Transom. Glastron Skiflite V-142 1978.

Following along . . . you 'could' make your transom wider, but as mentioned the stringers are where the load should be transferred to, not the outer edges of the hull. If anything, you may want to pay extra attention to the joint between the stringers and the transom. Is there going to be...

Has anyone bought a boat though TDG depot?

Many of these 'consignment' companies are scams. If it is a send your money and wait for delivery, it is definitely a scam. Low prices are the lure. Don't be the fish. Check it out before you act.

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Question for the group. . . I need to buy a few 3/4" NPT to 1" barb fittings for the extension blocks. Along the way, I have realized a significant amount of deterioration of a fitting on the open side . . . Looks like this . . . It splits the sea water coming from the HE and directs it to...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Here is the left side 'stack' for test fitting. It actually gives a bit more clearance for the coolant return line which will go in the face of the riser extension. . . Time to order some hardware, fittings, and hoses.

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Quick Update . . . A bit of re-engineering . . . As I removed the old fittings, installed the plugs where needed, I did some test fitting of the riser extension blocks. . These are the kind that have 2 set of fasteners rather than the kind that use a long bolt thru all pieces into the...

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Picture time . . . :D I reminded myself how much I hate pulling apart I/O exhaust systems  . Anyway, I got the elbows off the port engine and will be proceeding to the starboard engine soon, which should go fairly quick, since I am now practiced up. Here are a few pictures of the...

    Replacing stringers.

You can 'hear' all kinds of things in the Internet and elsewhere. If it is a bunk trilar, then it should be fine. A roller trailer, not so much. However you can add some 'bunk-like' supports to a roller trailer while rebuilding the hull.

    Mercruiser ECM Failed?

Sounds like your mechanic has done the proper diagnostic proof. Although, it would be good to re-install the original ECM and re-try, just to make sure it was not a connector issue. There is a place or 2 that will repair ECM's for less that what a new one costs. . . . there might be a few...

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

Yes, over thinking . . . poerboats are not that flimsy The bunks turned on end are common for many trailers as they require less mounting hardware to achieve adequate height above the cross members.

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

BTW - i also plan on replacing the exhaust flappers . . . which are Merc # 807166A1. When I replaced them 8 years ago, I recall that they were a bit pricey ($50 each  ). This time around I found some for about $25/pair . . . Of course, as I work on the engines over the years, I have...

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

That trailer is quite generic and the odds are any v-shaped hull will fit fine without much adjustment, if any. I did something similar when I bought my 24 foot boat. . . bought the boat in NJ and the trailer in MA. Then took the trailer to get the boat. Just out of curiosity, I did take a...

How do you match new trailer to existing boat?

Most bunk trailers will 'find' their own fitness as governed by the main bunks. You may have to adjust the front bunks and bow stop, but that's about it. Roller trailers will do something similar, but they are probably going to be a little more finicky

Riser Extension Blocks - Full Closed Cooling ???

Speaking of masks . . . I got my 2nd COVID vaccine shot yesterday. The Admiral is still waiting to get her first, since she is just a sweet young thing and managed to fall just below the eligibility age bracket (for now). Back on topic . . . I am really excited that I got these particular...
