    Transducer interference

My last Simrad was a factory option. The dealer set it up when they did the pre-delivery service. So, when I got the boat it just turned on with no initial set-up screen. I had a similar problem. When I did some troubleshooting I discovered that the wrong transducer frequency had been...

1990 Johnson 25hp cowl paint info needed!

I didn't know about Reprotint. Seems like I just bought some a short time ago. They were still running ads as recent as this July. In any event, I guess the other link I provided must be a competitor of IBoats. I apologize - Iboats doesn't carry the right paint anyway. The part number you...

For those fishing enthusiasts - what's your style of boat?

That's really funny! On a Sunday our waterways are filled with boats and the waves are tremendous. Even worse is Lake Erie with its swells and rollers. My perception was that the Whaler's ride is comfortable and predictable. IMHO, regardless of ride, I have never fished in any boat so...

For those fishing enthusiasts - what's your style of boat?

We fished in an outboard woody because that's what we had. After collage I bought a fiberglass OB closed bow runabout because that was the thing to do. When the kids got bigger we moved up to an I/O bowrider and that again is what we had. One day I found a 14' tinny with a 9.5 'Rude and...

Installing trim gauge on old engine that has no gauge.

The control box must have a switch, thus the wires that go to the trim unit must be there. I just don't remember how I connected it. Why not just buy the gauge and the instructions should show you what to do. Maybe wires from the gauge need to be spliced into others in the box. EDIT - I...

Installing trim gauge on old engine that has no gauge.

My memory aint so good any more, but I DO remember doing what you did. Back in the olden days I had a 1976 70 HP 3-cyl Evinrude and after installing it I really felt that it needed a trim gauge. The gauge was OEM OMC and as I recall I drilled a hole in the dash and connected some wires...

Running a Twin Outboard on One Motor

In my youth I was acquainted with a local auxiliary marine cop. He was an old fort and used to tie up at our dock once in awhile and chew the fat with my Grandpa. He always had a big Thompson with Twin 'Rudes that were always the biggest available at the time. Power trim was not common back...

    hummingbird down-imaging question

I have 2 down imaging units. Each cost well over $1000. For usual boating I like them a lot. They show a picture-like view of the bottom. Really neat! However, when fishing I usually switch them over to regular sonar because there I get better identification of the FISH. It all depends...

Cheapest way to replace stern on my 1984 Starcraft SS150

The advantage of marine grade plywood is that it is solid core. Sure, ext will work but you better also figure in the cost of some real good caulking to fill in the holes or the water intrusion will later require you to do it over again.

    Gas seeping from fill cap

It would seem that way. Nevertheless, the 2 most recent family boats purchased had the cap just above the rubrail, and the vent about 6" below it.

    Gas seeping from fill cap

It must be really hot weather for the gas to expand that much. I would look at the gas tank vent.

    Boat carpet question.

If I didn't WANT to help I would not have replied. I have done several boat rebuilds so I do have some experience....especially with floor coverings. What's so hard about talking a picture? Help is a 2-way street. My boat has hatches. Google that and you will see what it is. I googled...

    Boat carpet question.

Me either. This site is not just about answering questions for one person, its also a source of info for others. Someone please post a pic of the floor. Also, my boats don't have lids. Maybe i might want one. What the %^$# is it?

    Boat carpet question.

Not understandable. What is a lid? Regardless, carpets are outdated because they hold water and eventually the boat rots. Use Marideck instead. Sent pics so we can figure out what you need.

I'm looking for help on mounting a transducer

Now you've given more info. If its a tiller, where will you mount the head? It doesn't technically matter which side you mount the ducer, but usually the wiring is simplified if you mount it on the same side as the head. Sounds like you don't have a battery? If the engine doesn't need one...

I'm looking for help on mounting a transducer

Boy I'd like to have his job. Its a 30 minute job and all you need is a drill. Unless the boat manufacturer installs ducers as an OEM option, I doubt that they would have a clue. Mount it half way between the keel and the chine, or half way between strakes if you have them. It should be...

I'm looking for help on mounting a transducer

Never heard of a helix so I googled it. Looks like a nice unit. If the instructions were omitted from the box, you can download them. Humminbird has the most concise and detailed instructions of any of the sonar companies, including pictures. Much more than we could type on a web site...

    Connecting a 2nd gas tank to a Mercury 40hp 4 stroke

If you have a Merc motor with a Merc tank, then just buy a Merc tank as your second one. When in use, be sure to push the vent button every time you switch tanks, to ensure that you release the pressure. Otherwise you'll be squirting gas all the time.

Looking for Opinions on Super Bowriders

I live on the Niagara River. A gazillion boats locally. That said, the availability of covered storage is very slim. The boats that enjoy those facilities are classic wooden cruisers that have long term owners that are willing to pay whatever it takes to protect their babies. I never heard...
