How often carb rebuild, when running good?

First thing people do is tear into the carb. Crazy. Um....my motorcycle has been sitting in storage for three years with gas in it. Now it won't run. Wonder why. Probably needs carb cleaning. LOL.

1958 5.1/2 hp Evinrude model 5516 cowl removal

The question was removing the hood. Remove the slow speed and high speed knobs and choke knob. Remove lower spark plug Put shifter in reverse. Cross your eyes, grit your teeth, don't cuss, and you can finagle it off if you get it just right.

1957 Evinrude Lark - Need Junction Box!

Yep,, 1957 was the only year for that 5-pin cable. But a 7-pin cable will work also. Try a want ad at AOMCI.org The ad is free Um, the 7-pin setup won't support a key switch

What is this rusting at the end of the steering bar?

Since I don't know what model you are working on, I just grabbed one at random, but the design is pretty similar across many models. Note that the upper motor mount, #70 is bolted to that steering arm, and the whole shebang is under the powerhead. So you are very correct, it is virtually...

What is this rusting at the end of the steering bar?

You said "What surprises me is the Engine tech who did a service 2 months ago with p.o didnt mention it at all." Heck, if that was a requirement, I would have had to mention it on every job that came into the shop. Then I'd be accused of overselling unless it was rusted severely. They are all...

diagnose broken lower (clutch) shaft - 1957 7.5hp

Those shaft flats are almost always worn like that. No problem. Have you discovered how rare and expensive those bearing plates are? If you find one at a reasonable price grab it.

What is this rusting at the end of the steering bar?

Welcome to the world. Stuff happens. Especially to those steering arms that are notorious for rusting. You should see what a few years of salt water can do to them. Fortunately they are very strong and can get pretty awful before being dangerous. Nevertheless, clean it up and paint it is...

diagnose broken lower (clutch) shaft - 1957 7.5hp

I've had many hundreds of those lower units apart, and must say I've rarely if ever been concerned about the issues you mention. Far more common is the damage done to the upper bearing, even to the point of breaking the thin bearing plate.

    1958 Fastwin 18 lower unit won‘t drop

Yes, that will work, and I have done it. BUT the original problem still exists. That is the splines will continue to rust away, till one day they will be gone and it will be dead in the water. How long?? I don't know. How's your luck?

    1958 Fastwin 18 lower unit won‘t drop

The last guy that had it apart left the o-ring off the drive shaft splines, now it is rusted together. I hate it when that happens. Could even be terminally rusted. Word to the wise----don't ignore the o-ring!!!!!

No water discharge from port 1967 33hp evinrude

Relax, it's absolutely normal. Yes it is normal when running in a tank. It is the oil that you put in the gas. 100% of that oil goes through the engine. Part of it is burned (makes smoke) and the rest goes out the exhaust, along with the other combustion byproducts. When discharged into the...

1988 evinrude 20hp excessive moisture coming from exhaust

Water is SUPPOSED to come out the exhaust (prop hub). A lot of water, in fact. Can we assume you are running on muffs? Sounds to me like you are starving it for water supply.

No fear, the powerhead is easy to remove.

No water discharge from port 1967 33hp evinrude

The flared upper end of the water tube is simply a tight fit into the cavity in the housing. No rubber seal or anything. It is not unreasonable to expect some leakage, but certainly not enough to have a negative effect on the cooling. Unless there is a big chunk busted out of the castings...

No water discharge from port 1967 33hp evinrude

We are not there to examine your motor or diagnose the problem. But let me say this: If AIR (exhaust) enters the intake side of the water pump, it may not pump when running but might pump when spun with a drill. Why? Because when running, the water pump is surrounded by air (exhaust). It's...

No water discharge from port 1967 33hp evinrude

I also do not think there is a problem---at least not until proven by running the motor under normal conditions. In the first place. testing it by running the starter is hardly a valid test. In the second place, only part of the water is supposed to come out the exhaust relief port. The rest...
