GOOD NEWS. . . . The PICTURE UPLOAD FUNCTION IS WORKING !!! The tech folks at the parent company have been able to remedy the issue. You can upload pictures once again. Thank you for your patience.
If you look at the pics???? You'll see there is no regular head, it's been modified to accept the handle.
Some are cut down to fit a 1/2" socket.
Also it's a fine thread, 1/2X 16 is too thick, that's why its a 24 or close to that.
Undo the fuel line at the pump, glass container, pump the ball and catch the gas in the glass container.
Any water?? Maybe the last fill up was contaminated??
After the early 90's all the gear ratio's were the same.
You have to look up the parts diagrams(like I did) and find when they standardized the ratio's.
Compression test?
It's odd that BOTH motors turn slow.
Test the batteries?
Check the cables for bad spots and loose connections, battery switch could be going bad?
After seeing the pics: Both motors are US. Marine
The drive with the short shaft is from the 90's
not positive what year but doing some research can figure it out???
in 89 they changed water pump styles.
Not positive but they might swap(not parts, whole pumps)
They introduced the Hell Drive and needed a stub shaft to connect to the L drive.
I believe in 90 when they started on the 90/120/150 they standardized the gear ratio. They all had the same ratio at one...
The needle comes in 2 styles.
#1 is a solid needle.
#2 is a needle with a rubber tip molded into the needle.
#1 seat: has a teenie tiny o-ring in the base of the seat.
#2 seat: is solid.
The #1 seats o-ring can rip/tear or swell( that can be difficult to diagnose) when certain chemicals are...
IF??? you have that much play in the shifter before it engages???
Then somethings hooked up wrong.
Remove the cables and try to move the shift arms by hand,
They should not move. No movement? the shifters good.
Then switch to the shift mechanism on the motor:
The cables hooked up right where...
You have 2 Force motors. Both 85
Neither 85 had anything to do with Mercury, Mercury came in later after the 85 turned to a 90.
The color has a lot to do with the difference between the T@T.
Blue Force 85 was made from 87 to 89
White 85 was from 1983 to 86
The 85 T2T could fit both white and...
MMMM pretty blue OOOOH. :)
Saw it in a bunch of colors. 80-140 yellow, Wally World
Had a pair of 88/85hp Forces. They both weeped from the bottom drain plug, NOTHING I did stopped it??? So my lowers were changed at least 5-6 times a year(used the boat a lot)
Some of the products your buying could be 10-20 years old.
One tiny backfire or cough can cause the diaphragm to rip.
If you have reoccurring problem?? install 2 diaphragms in the pump.
Like Racer said, use the Mercury products.
The boots changeable.
A touch of Dialectric grease on the end of the plug might help with the rust.
But too much will cause the boot to fall off.
Some cases the wire needs to be helped, use shrink tube and Liquid Electric tape to cover the wire.
Topgun was right about the 70 and the Helldrive.
The one carb on the 70 was a real bad idea.
They cooked more #1 cyl. because of the crappy design.
I didn't like the 150 all that much either.
