    Check the points and yes the prop should turn. Spin 180 for reverse. Spark should be a pretty blue and cross a 1/4 gap. If not check points ( clean and re-set) Ohm test condenser's or replace. There is a fuel pump element on the back side of the carb probably needs replaced. It comes in the kit...

    You can buy the magneto only and put it on the lamenet. Its a Wico prestolite coil made for many years and used on different machines and outboards. Thats really pricey. I would keep shopping

    And that motor is made by Force. Mercury dealer probably has the coil but I would look on-line much cheaper that way.

    Not always. Most have a pin or a latch. Most people dont lock them down because it will save your foot from busting if you hit something solid like a tree or stump.

    Have you rotated the shaft to see if they are opening? Dumb question but had to ask. Ohm test the coil.

    Compression is #1. If not a possible re-build. Ive had people say great compression and I tell them Im bringing my tester and the ad disappears for some reason. See if it has spark. Than remember alot of boat mfg's made a Sears motor. In the 60's possibly a McCulloch. Good motors

    If its black its made by Force. 88-89 yr. the only year they made a 7.5hp I had a 7.5 and a 9.9. Easy motors to work on. Fairly simple. Can still find parts ran good.
