    Did you replace the fuel pump bladder inside the face of the carb and its seated with the slit at 2-8 oclock? Like in the first pic I sent.

    very simple carbs. How did the fuel pump look? Does your carb have a high speed adjustment screw in the bottom of the carb bowl? How did the reeds look? Did you adjust the float properly?

    Inline fuel filter was there. Someone was smart enough to add it so trash from the tank didnt get in the carb

    Ohm test that coil Guaranteed its shot. Im almost sure you can go buy a OMC coil and pull the winding off and swap it to that old one. You can you tube or google how to do it

    I have on newer motors left the nut on about a couple threads and hit with a rubber mallet and it pops off. Not saying it works all the time but it has. I would run to Harbor freight and get a puller on a motor that old.

    Right above the cavitation plate will be a cover with 2 screws. Take it off to access the shift linkage and remove the piece holding the 2 pieces together.
