  1. The Force power

    1976 Mercury 850 value

Wasn't the 70hp with the clamshell cowl the same? (as in issues)
  2. The Force power

    1976 Mercury 850 value

No, I think the "classic 4" was before that & was actually a 45hp But yes to the 65hp was a three banger & what I heard from the old school guys; the top cylinder would always go due lack of cooling as all the water passing over the top cylinders has passed the #3/#2 first. Having said that, it...

I would have to say the same about my 1978 50hp Not so much for my 1975 65hp

    1990 Force 90 Won't Crank -Binding

After you dropped the LU as Raceone suggested & no change; pull the head to see if the cylinder-walls are scored?? Possible broken ring(s) stuck in the exhaust-ports The '90 does not have glued magnets on the fly-wheel it is a solid band

That's odd, those newer style lever/controls have different plug to the motors Did the harness get hardwired into harness under the cowl?
  6. The Force power

Check the trigger-wires they tend to corrode around the area where they're going under the fly-wheel and can cause misfires. Don't cut corners when you are replacing wiring, it will come back & haunt you
  7. The Force power

You should tear into the wiring in the control box as well, open it up & you'll see

FUN FACT; Main ingredient in WD is Fish oil
  9. The Force power

    1976 Mercury 850 value

True to that! Old corroded wire leads to misdiagnosing the ignition-system I fixed up a few of these classics & replaced wire for wire till the last one under the cowl

Don't "play" with the timing/primary & secondary pick up (if not necessary or proper manual) their are a bore to set-up correctly As Chris1956 said; they're good motors ($600+ in my area)

Force 85 not firing on cylinder 3

You could move the trigger-wires to the #4 circuit (second module) & hook #3 coil-connector to port #4 of the second module?

Force 85 not firing on cylinder 3

Hi Jiggz, I found a really interesting piece/write up from the late Frank that may answer both our curiosity (see below) Re: 1988 Force 125 Negative Voltage CDI If the flywheel is turning at about 300 RPM or better, the magnets generate an AC voltage of about 250 volts in each set of windings...
  13. The Force power

Force 85 not firing on cylinder 3

No, there is not a jumper on the 85 and/or the 90 HP All three wires are just together all forks-connectors on one stud (not additional wiring to anything/anywhere)
  14. The Force power

Force 85 not firing on cylinder 3

Sorry I have to correct myself, it would mess up the charging sequence of the packs?
  15. The Force power

Force 85 not firing on cylinder 3

Hey Jerry, will it not also mess up the firing order?

    1970 Chrysler 70hp outboard motor

Under normal circumstances.....yes it would be by hand.......due to compression of air inside the Cylinders.....get a compression gauge to see how much PSI compression you have

    1970 Chrysler 70hp outboard motor

Any tested good car battery will do, rectify the issues with the terminals
  18. The Force power

    1970 Chrysler 70hp outboard motor

What you are hearing the cylinders moving back & forth! Don't believe anything what the guy told you, Find out yourself Bypass the solenoid hook up the battery and jump the Starter
  19. The Force power

    1970 Chrysler 70hp outboard motor

"You can hear good compression" How do you possibly hear good compression? "get the new starter put on" Have you tried to jump the starter solenoid as I told you earlier?
