    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Will be back at it tomorrow.....get the carbs clean and set up properly. When I get to step #6 in Frank's link and sync (setting timing) got a couple questions.....since this is a different PH I will have to set up the initial TDC....and this new PH has no timing pointer(came off a 1986 Force)...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Have also had to order some parts here and there, then have to wait a week or so to get them.....nuts, bolts, waterline seals, etc. It really slows down the process.....but luckily have been able to find everything I needed.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Hey Winner, the swap is going good....I work on it when I can (still working full time). Am kinda slow since I am not a real outboard mechanic, but am taking my time so I don't have to go back and redo anything that wasn't done right the first time. Hope to get the carbs done this week, set...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

They are Tillotson....have a factory manual but sometimes they assume you know more than you do. The reason I asked was because I read another thread about carbs and the guy said you needed a "special" tool to remove the valve seats? Thanks for the info Nordin.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Update......have been working on this thing when I can.....am kinda slow but thorough. Have everything transferred over to the new powerhead except for the carbs. Will be rebuilding them next.....then Link and Sync and see what we got. Are any special tools needed for the carb...

    Post your performance numbers

I hear you brother.....if a smaller boat will be good for what you do on the water then not a bad idea. My old rig has sentimental value and I like tinkering around with it...otherwise I would have upgraded by now. Whatever "floats your boat". (y)

    Post your performance numbers

The economics of rebuilding an old Chrysler/Force doesn't make sense until you see what it would cost to buy another older motor of any brand.....for $1500 I will be right back where I was....and happy with it.....if this swap works out as planned. Bad news is Mr Franz is trying to retire and is...

270 in lbs looks good then......thanks. Just wanted to be sure since these are what holds the PH to the motor leg.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Nordin....do you know the torque spec for the PH attaching nuts and hex bolts? My factory manual gives the value for the 4 nuts that hold the spacer plate on from underneath as 270 in lbs......but nothing for the outer fasteners.
