    Anchor Rope

I never had a problem splicing 3 strand line including 2" manilla" largest diameter line on the tug where I spent a summer vacation as a deck hand. In using the Fid, a conical, hand held instrument made to open the "lays" of the line for insertion of a lay, in short or long splicing. I was...

    Anchor Rope

Thats funny. My nautical training called ropes "line", the floor the "deck" and the crapper the "head".

    Boat trailer brakes

If I were to buy another boat requiring brakes on the axles (4500# is the Texas crossover point) they would be electric discs. Just seem to be the right type for aqua environments.

    Anchor Rope

I don't like poly as it doesn't resist abrasion....course moot point but do you really want your anchor rope to float.....a floating ski rope is different....no abrasion and you want it to float. I don't like Sisal as it is abrasive to your hands. Nylon stretches but resists water damage and...

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

Well, obviously I picked it up in my limited boating circles when a teen. I see the misnomer is widespread. Course, people who write articles for the news media don't necessarily know what they are talking about either. Case in point the word "re-iterate". it has to be said and repeated...

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

Er ah Antiventilation Plate. Cavitation is most prominent on propeller tips and the more dings the worse it is. Antiventilation is the purpose of the plate above the prop.....reduces the propeller's ability to suck surface air into the slipstream and cause ventilation....air where water should...

Simply Ohm's law: Power dissipated equals current squared x resistance. if resistance is zero, zero squared is still zero and power dissipated (heat) is also zero. Since power is a second order equation the dissipation rises logarithmetically...{exponentially) as the resistance is increased...

    Prop spin

I don't in R either, just a few degrees , obviously N spins freely. In F since the gearbox contains an overrun clutch, which is nothing more than a gear ground in a saw toothed configuration such that CW, in the overrun position, turning the prop causes the teeth to slide over the ramp causing...

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

No doubt, the higher you can get the LU out of the water the lower the drag and higher the speed and RPMs. Just how high depends on a lot of factors and mainly selecting a prop that runs shallow and doesn't blow out. Without that you are relieving yourself into the wind......ugh....grin. I...

The service manual states otherwise! Besides, seldom do normal requirements require the full 16 amps for an extended period of time to maintain a charged battery, if amperage ever gets that high with maintenance charging.....I doubt it! Add connector corrosion to trying to charge a discharged...

    Speed Plateaus at 5200rpm

Lineup looks OK but lowering the engine an inch would help. Just commenting on pictures, not other responses on height. Also, I don't detect any "cupping" in the SS prop.....which are usually cupped.....each prop design determines just how much cupping is right for that design.....lots of cup...

    70hp evinrude pitch size advice

As I recall after having this boat for several years, I dialed in the tab for my upper RPM operation. Had it not been a PIA at other trim settings I would not have gone to the expense and labor of installing NFB steering....2002 115 2 stroke Merc and Crestliner 1750 Fish Hawk. Oh, while I was...

    Prop spin

If its the prop hub to casting slipping it's very easily diagnosed. Just scribe a line from the innermost piece of metal (spline) out to the outer most piece of metal (barrel) and take it out and run it. Remove the prop and look at the line. If intact, gear problem....if distorted, hub problem.

    70hp evinrude pitch size advice

Expect the trim tab to have different effects as its contact with the water changes as the angle (trim) changes. If you don't want prop torque feedback, install a "no feedback" steering system...solves that problem but is a little harder to steer...but no biggie for me, I'll take the NFB hands...

Because the engine mounted charging is to keep a charged battery charged during engine operation and battery drain. Always check your battery prior to usage when boat is seldom used and charge with a power line powered charged to get the battery 90-100% full. Otherwise you could have fried...

    Which fuel to use?

Not having read any of the replies, the service manual doesn't say to use 87 it says that 87 is the minimum. If you use the minimum of things, expect minimum results. I switched to premium quite awhile ago and I get much better overall performance. My money, engine, and decision.

I think OMCs pretty much ran 4500 to 5500 with the HP established at 5000. Also assume OMC 70's were geared about 2.5-1. If I am wrong, just change the gear ratio on the calculator, re calculate max speed, keep the same prop slip and solve for speed...

Well now that we have that solved (apologize for any oversight), let's get back to ventilation basics: From Q bhoy wayyyy back at the top: "Hi. Any pictures of the engine and it mounted on the boat? It may be poorly set up for height perhaps. Could also be to do with the propeller too. Some...
