Low RPM's and looking for higher top speed

Ok bro. What's the difference in the HP of the two boats and transom area weights? Your wakes tell me that the 2 stroker had a lot more ponies and yes that did result in a super fast hole shot and 50+ MPH chine spray "fog" or faster. No doubt the 2 storker was fast, give you that.

    16ft Glasspar w/65hp 2 stroke

Prop shops can and will loan you a prop for testing with the requirements that you return it, if not the right answer, with it in the same condition in which it left their shop.....so they can sell it as new to another customer. If you want to start with the prop listed in the tests you...

Low RPM's and looking for higher top speed

Sloppy hole shot???? I don't think so. Looks pretty fast to me and MPH are right up there looking at your chine spray pattern and the distance of the transom convergence behind the boat. Looks like setup as in your picture, you have the best of both worlds.

Low RPM's and looking for higher top speed

Agreeing with Scott. You can't have your cake and eat it. Both conditions you want to achieve are opposite polarities.....i e, you have to sacrifice one to get the other. I'd say getting the RPMs up should be your goal and suffer a few MPH less than you are currently getting....unless you put...

    V-Hull Vs Flat bottom Speed

I had a friend with the 3 HP (tank on top of the engine) with the lower unit that was essentially weedless. We went to some fine weedy. Lilly Pad infested backwaters with that engine and caught some trophy bass......but as said, it took a long time to get there.

    V-Hull Vs Flat bottom Speed

Alumacraft and Lone Star semi Vs were popular in my boating circles back in the '50-60 time line. They had rounded chines whereby flat bottomed, blunt nosed aluminum boats classified as John Boats were flat bottomed the complete length with a rise at the bow and hard chines. While Lone Star...

    Crestliner seat removal

I have a 2002 1750 Fish Hawk and removed some floor panels to get at the hardware under the deck. My OEM carpet covered deck is held in place with Phillips #2 screws hiding in the carpet near the corners of the panels.

55HP Chrysler outboard backfiring no start HELP!

Torque spec for my 90 Merc was 150# as I recall. As others have said, it needs to be tight to protect the Woodruff key (engine timing). I don't know what your 55 spec is but I'd put at least 100# on it if it were mine, not knowing the exact value.

55HP Chrysler outboard backfiring no start HELP!

There is your smoking gun. The flywheel key on any engine is critical to proper engine timing and even a partially sheared key can (and has for me) caused timing problems....backfiring...spark igniting the fuel mixture in the combustion chamber when an input port is open....be it an intake...

    2008 Fishhawk Fuel Tank Question

The fuel fill cap on my boat has 2 holes for an adapter to fit the holes giving you a blade for removing the cap if you can't remove it from the knurled edge of the cap. Mine is black plastic and on the Gunwale (top flat rail on the hull), Starboard side, about 6" from the transom. With a...

    2008 Fishhawk Fuel Tank Question

If you are talking about a Crestliner (brand) Fish Hawk (model) and it is like my 2002 the vent is part of the fill port. When you pull the fuel filler cap off and look down in the hole there is the large fill hole and on the side a small vent hole. Does the fuel gauge register full?

    Winter Prep for So Cal

If it were mine, I'd remove the battery, take it home and put it on a trickle charger. I have a farm and have a dozen or so batteries in different equipment and a lot of them don't get operated regularly. After having dismal luck with my batteries, and the cost of new ones, I realized that...

1989 merc black max xr4 prop questions

The sales brochure lists both. In second guessing the model and what its designed to do, the smaller case is designed to go fast so one would expect, with the smaller 13" wheel, the prop would turn faster so that you were going faster at WOT RPM with a light boat and a lot of pitch in the prop...

1989 merc black max xr4 prop questions

I'm assuming a 1.87 since you are into 14+" props and not 13+" props which would be the smaller 4" dia. housing, 1.76 gear ratio on your engine to prop. With that said, per (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1axsbSmCOZZBLIE6TUahFbAIbenrB3fn3ehb6G698FmE/edit?usp=sharing) your slip is 11%...

    Upgrades to old alluminum boat

If you are in a 300 acre lake leave it be. If traveling any distance, the helm will move you forward and more HP will make it a different boat. My nearest engine to yours was a 1956 Johnson 5.5 and it moved the boat but that's about all. Wouldn't plane even with lots of gear/fuel tank moved...

Should I opt for oil delete? confused. seeking expert consult

I had that engine and decided to pull the drive gear and go with pre-mix after 12 years of age and usage. No reason but felt that it was a good idea. I replaced it with a 115 of the same year-model, design, series of Merc. and stayed with the OEM VRO. I use/used wallyworld's Pennzoil Premium...
