Early 80’s merc 2.0 150 V6 brown band clamshell black max ratio

The decals are not original. It used to be brown decals. Good job if it..but not original apparently. I think you’re right about being early to mid 80’s.

Is the fuel priming bulb the right way around ? Easy to get that going the wrong direction occasionaly

Early 80’s merc 2.0 150 V6 brown band clamshell black max ratio

Strange one. It’s definitely a different looking thing from the mid 90’s mercury mariner 2.0 150 sitting next to it just now. This is the best picture I have

    Duo prop seal replacement

If it’s the older dp from late 80’s to early 90’s (may not be), you can cheat and just split and remove the upper end of the outdrive

    Long or short shaft

Hi searider. Always love your posts and we share a common love of inflatables too, from memory…but honestly, that picture you’ve posted above has the height set up a little low and likely wrong. Far too low in the water for any average sports boat use. Even Running with the AV plate level with...

    Pontoon Prop Selection

It would be quite uncommon to gain the hundreds of rpms you’re looking for, by going with more pitch, I’d be sure. I think on these boats, you are very limited on adjustment, from what I hear. It’s usually a fine line between them managing to grip the water and not managing at all. Trimming out...

Early 80’s merc 2.0 150 V6 brown band clamshell black max ratio

Hi So the merc 150 black max I have on the wee cvx16 is a strong motor. Runs so well on the couple of outings so far. She ran a 66 mph gps on the second try and prop that day. Initially I presumed her red and white decals (look very original) of the usual found on a late 80’s to early 90’s...

Alpha1 350 raw cooled boils and ticks rapidly after short time on muffs

I’d say most do that I know of. I know for sure my ‘03 v8 has a 160 in it and manual dictating it too. She runs dead on 153 99% of the time on smart craft reading

    New Project Sunbird 170 Crosair

Maybe on a sunbird owners forum, I’d guess. But if it’s the boat I think it is. I’ve known two of them. Lovely wee classic shaped things. Both I knew of had Johnson 70hp on the back of them.

Alpha1 350 raw cooled boils and ticks rapidly after short time on muffs

Looks like some early early raw water might be 140. Searched through a few pages on google there and came across the suggestion. But certainly over here. All of these raw water cooled spec a 160 after 1987 at least. Closed cooling spec 140. Weird for sure…but seems to be the case.

Alpha1 350 raw cooled boils and ticks rapidly after short time on muffs

Lou. Definitely agree and understand the idea around a closed and pressurised system being able to run hotter (with water boiling above 100 degrees C if under pressure). Although I have owned and maintained my own petrol powered boats with gm over the years…I professionally worked on diesels for...

Alpha1 350 raw cooled boils and ticks rapidly after short time on muffs

Hi Lou. Wouldn’t normally question a guy like yourself and with your knowledge…but are you sure about this ? Any of my GM raw water t stats have all been 160. The few closed cooling I’ve known were 140 I’m sure. You’ve got me doubting myself here. I’ll need to double check. Haha.

Alpha1 350 raw cooled boils and ticks rapidly after short time on muffs

Thinking similar to some others. You may have the wrong gaskets or set up in the riser to manifolds. But I’d also always thought a 140 t stat is for closed cooling engines. 160 is for raw. I once had to bleed air out the circ pump housing on an engine to get water around it. Afterwards found...

    Fuel Starvation?

Hi. Are you running from a remote fuel tank or an inbuilt to the boat tank ?

I/O Exhaust Riser life in Fresh Water environment

Hi. Answer is a long time. But also depends where you are too. Here in Scotland, it’s been known for exclusively fresh water boats to require them replaced after a while. I had a boat that needed them done after about 18 years. In those days, it wasn’t common to leave antifreeze in engines over...

Cooling Water Path through 2 Stroke Yamaha Outboard

Often it’s just the tell tale that’s blocked with salty crud deposits. Worst case, yeah the whole lot could be blocked. Is it not pumping water out the lower unit ?

    Mercury 15hp No Compression

Easy to check. Put it in gear and see if the prop turns too. That would tell you if you’re actually turning the engine over too. Take the plugs out and feel for compression too. Sure sounds like it could be the flywheel key

Engine smell in cabin when boat is tarped for the week (350 i/o)

Hi. I’d say that when a boat is out the water and not sitting the same way as it does in the water…all sorts of weird things happen. Water from the bilge doesn’t stay in the bilge and can run forward. Leaks can appear that weren’t there in the water, just from the boat not being supported the...
