    Remove bypass covers and inspect rings.---Use small screw driver to push on them and see if they spring back / are loose in the grooves.----They may be jammed with carbon / corrosion.

    Does this motor still have the automatic oiler / oil tank installed ?----If so it should be removed and thrown away.----Then mix at 50:1 in your fuel tank.-----The ignition parts are big $$ items.----Do you have an ohmmeter ?

    Look for a private message.----You need a starter from a 1965 to 1970 model 33 HP or 1965 to 1976 model 40 HP .----And sorry ---sometimes the sellers will always tell you everything fits !

    The starter in the 3rd picture would have been off a much newer motor.-----A 1969 and newer 3 cylinder 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 HP or a 1971 to 2005 model 2 cylinder 50 HP.-----I have never seen or knew it could fit on a 35 HP like yours.------The starter for your 35 was used on the 28 / 33 / 40 hp...

    Clicking in neutral means that clutch dog is not in the correct position.----Too close to forward or too close to reverse.
