    1950 3hp Evinrude

I have a older Evinrude with the model 4423, at least that is what I can read. I think it is about 3hp from 1950. It has good spark and about 70 psi in both cylinders but it won't start. I have had it sputter, for a lack of a better word, but stalls out. I'm think the issue is in the carb and it...

    Elgin question

Any Elgin fans out there? I recently picked up an older Elgin with this number stamped on it, 401-41041. I believe it to be late 40's and about 3hp? I want to remove the mid section and lower end from the power head. I removed about 8 screws below the power head but it doesn't drop off. I've...

'51 Johnson does not run smoothly

I have a 1951 5hp Johnson. It starts up fine and will run fine for a few minutes then it won't keep the same speed. That is it won't keep the constant RPM's no matter where I put the throttle. It will slow down then back up on it's own, run well for a minute or so and repeat. I have cleaned the...

    3.3hp Evinrude

I have a 3.3hp Evinrude from the late 40's. The serial number is 4423-82767 and looking up the year for this tells me this number ranges from 1947-1950 but no specific year. This needs a flywheel and I'm wondering if the flywheels are interchangeable. That is will one from 1947 fit in one from...

TN-27 5 hp motor fluctuation issues

I was given this motor, TN-27 that was not starting. I think it is from 1951. I got it running. It starts up easy and idles nice and will run good at high speed but the one problem I have is that after it has run for a few minutes the motor speed fluctuates on its own. That is the speed of the...

'69 6hp will not keep fuel pressure

I have a 1969 6hp Johnson. It starts find and runs for a while before it stalls out. To keep it running I need to apply pressure about every 30 seconds to the fuel tank bulb. I know the fuel tank works as I use it on other Johnson motors with no problems. Is this a fuel pump problem? Gary

I'm working on a 1954 10hp Johnson. It will start and run ok at first but the RPM's will go up and down and eventually stall.
