Re: 100:1 gas oil mix ( safe for most outboards)If you use the right oil!
Lubedude,

You spell just fine. Mercmaster doesn't, nor does he use grammar clearly enough that you can understand exactly what he's saying.

You agreed with my statement about following the manufacturer's specs. That's about the only safe advice that can be given with regard to lubrication for any outboard under warranty. Anything else is irresponsible.

For all I know, Amsoil is just fine. I don't use it. I use normal TC-W3 outboard oil, at the ratio recommended by the manufacturer of my outboard. I wouldn't discourage anyone from using Amsoil, unless their use of it would void the warranty on their outboard. Then, I'd advise strongly against it.

Bottom line here is that we have no idea who this "Mercmaster" person is. He makes several incorrect statements. Why should anyone listen to him? Why should anyone listen to anyone who quotes him?

He's certainly not speaking officially for Mercury. He's not speaking officially for Amsoil. So what the heck weight does anything he say have?

Fortunately, every time one of these threads starts up, enough people pop in and advise that people not start running Amsoil at 100:1 in their outboard, especially if it's under warranty. Someone also has to always say not to use it in outboards designed for 24:1 mixtures.

Amsoil products are probably just fine, but the advice that some Amsoil advocates give is not just fine.
