Catfishr1,

That's a nice looking boat you're working with!

I have a 21' Chieftain and I'm pretty sure your islander is a similar hull. If so I might be a little wary of running a 350, I have the 165HP 250 Chevy in my boat and I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with another 100 horses on tap (especially if less experienced family & friends would be driving the boat).

I'd go with the 4.3, should be plenty of power and more economical to boot!

Thanks for stopping by ErikF; and thank you for compliment on my Islander. According to coast guard certification plate, gas & motor not to exceed 1345#. I would love to put a 4.3 engine on her stringers. But few and far between. According to weight the 5.7 & 50 gallons of fuel still under allowed.

Post up a wish for & a general location for the pending trip, the mob will likely dig up some good donor's for you. You likely have you're home turf wired, so you may not need or want the mob searching there. Esp that Glen fella (Dozer), not that he'd deliberately try to sneak a good donor or an SC out from under ya :watermelon:

There was a 4.3L glass rig posted somewhere w/in my search bot's search radius recently, but I'm not looking for an I/O, and up toward Cleveland (I think) was too far away to really think about grabbing 'just' to part it out. @$1000+/-, if I remember correctly.

Maybe it's time to revive or restart the "CL Donor Boats For Our Tinnies" thread we had going for a while. We have a few members looking for motors, trailers, etc.

Ok jb; Will do. Its in Bloomington area, the owner moving out of state. It is a Webbercraft with less than 20 hrs. on complete rebuild, top & btm. This is prolly my first choice. The up side to this trip its close to Monroe reservoir. He he, could get a fishing excursion with this one. Yes, check cragslist daily & promising prospects goes into saved searches. Thanks for heads up on the 4.3.

Well guys, Found out I had better go to school on the I/o power system. The webbercraft was so excited about has a 351 which had assumed meant the 5.7. A lesson my Granpa taught me; the mother of flubs. Finally googled 351 mercruiser and found out that is the ford hot rod engine designed for there wild horse car. I thought uh oh. And this one has been bored 60 over, with new intake & edleton carb. Probably 350 horses or more.Well back to drawing board. Have found one in Shelbyville with 5.7. But he wants more than wanted to pay.:frusty:

Not sure if they do, should if they dont. Was hopeing you would drop in Bwana Don. Still laughing with the mental image got when I read your post. Of course not going to be a tinnie donor, going to be a glasser.:peace:
