Looks great.
Good idea with the hand grip joints. I read the thread too.You must have this on your mind 24-7.
Are you putting the same seats and boxes back in ? Can't remember from the last posts. Reason for asking is I have to redo my floor also. When I do a complete floor on mine I was thinking of putting in a 5 degree V outside rise for water run off to to bilge so water doesn't sit on the floor to start decomp. Don't think I or anybody ealse would notice the difference.
Just a thought, compensates for leaning over also.

Find a 'black' box that uses a USB connector & is set up for your computer's drive setup, SCSI or whatever the other standards are. If you can rebuild a Bayliner Capri, you can pull the hard drive out of your computer. You just plug it into the black box & use it as an external hard drive, essentially. This is of course PC not MAC info.

Much easier to do then most people think. And it's usually not your 'computer' that gives up, it's the power supply & that may or may not toast your motherboard. Usually does.... But even if you have a password protected user &/or multiple users, the hard drive is still mostly the C:/ format w/ sub-directories and the data is often fully intact.

Hope ^^^ helps, good luck.

Re: 93 Bayliner 1800 Capri Outboard Restoration Project

Thanks for the info...I just actually left a friend of mine's house who does this all the time.....and unfortunately something has come loose inside the hard drive and he said it was gone. He said I could send it off and have data recovered from the actual disk, but it would cost a ton! I had almost everything else already backed up so I figure it is not worth the money. I believe I have decided to make inside stringers even with the outside...then after putting the cap back on I will build in place. Not hard to do....was just worried about the structural aspect of the stringer design, but after A LOT of looking and thinking....as usual I believe I am worried over nothing.

Ok...what would cause PB to still be slightly tacky after close to 24you hrs...I mixed it same as usual...yet the boat is in garage now and not in sun.

humidity, temp both change the needs of MEKP%

Mixed resin & MEKP 1st then made it into PB?

Slightly tacky is point you do wet on wet layups, so PB may be OK.... But you should probably wait for a guru to let you know for sure.

Re: 93 Bayliner 1800 Capri Outboard Restoration Project

I had a piece of 1/2 inch plywood in my basement....I used it for the last piece of small part of transom. I am betting it was not as dry as I thought it was....seeing how the humidity in the basement is probably very high. Add that to high humidity the last 24piece hrs and I figure that's what's causing it. Just trying to make sure I shouldn't pry it loose before it fully cures to replace.

Hopefully that's it, if all else was done right, the next layups should help it cure..... Should...

Ok....so as far as you know it may just take a while to cure? Sitting here debating pulling it off. Lol

Should... Let me make that a big SHOULD.

I don't remember which thread, but someone used too little MEKP by 50% and their supplier told them to proceed w/ next layup, it kicking would help kick the under catalyzed resin.

Re: 93 Bayliner 1800 Capri Outboard Restoration Project

Well I flipped over the piece of plywood that I cut it out of and there was mold close to where I cut it....so I solved that problem! It is off! And came of way to easy to of been on there for 24a hrs....keep in mind I used pb in between two pieces of plywood...so I could not layup another layer......ok...I feel better now. Would rather waste a pint of pb then risk it.

If only so you know there wont be a problem, worth taking it off! But sounds like it was definitely the right move if 24hr in & it wasn't tough to remove. That clearly ain't right....

Hope it doesn't hold up your planned progress this weekend. Have a good weekend...

Re: 93 Bayliner 1800 Capri Outboard Restoration Project

After looking it bonded well with existing transom piece I had already made. Matter of fact most of pb was bonded to old pics and new one hardly has any on it. That wood must have been wet....forget trying to save a buck on plywood. I will get a new piece tomorrow and replace. Gotta work most of the weekend so it can wait. I am really holding true to my signature! Lol

Re: 93 Bayliner 1800 Capri Outboard Restoration Project

Just an important tip....make sure any wood you glass or especially PB you use on wood....that the wood is completely dry. Man it has been 48 hrs and the PB that was left on the transom piece I took out is still not cured. Yet what remained on existing transom wood in boat is cured and bonded like normal. Glad I removed it last night!

Well....have been working so much I havent had time to even touch the boat. Got a chance to grind down remaining glass left from where I separated pieces that didn't bond well and new piece is ready to go in. Man, funny as it sounds...I am missing working on it.

93B, you are doing some really nice work and making that Bayliner tons better than the factory...Kudos!

Bummer 'bout the fried hard drive...I guess you never got your pics loaded into Photobucket?

I am trying to figure out the setup you were asking about in the front...my less than scientific opinion is, do the inboard stringers so they match the outboard stringers and they both [all four] carry the load of the deck, then, like you said, you can add some cleats and build up from there for the bow seat supports...

Maybe retake the pics of the cap and hull and post 'em, and maybe someone who knows these boats better can see the relationship between the two and give you a better answer...

Keep up the great work...:D

I am not a carpenter or woodworker, so I may be wrong, but I believe that is called a "Hand Joint"...:)

Ok...is it just me or did anyone else want to eat some cheese puffs after reading the last couple posts! Hahahahaha. Got to work on the boat a couple hrs last night, and decided to try and finish up the grinding. Got all the remaining pieces ground down where stringers go, and a lot of front done. Should have all grinding finished today!!!! Yay...trying to get rid of the itch! Lol
