Curious about opinions on bedding in stringers. I plan to bed in a couple spots...kinda like tack welding. This will make them stay in place while I walk around in boat to finish bedding. Figure I will bed in 6 to 8" sections 2 or 3 of them....that should hold them steady.

I was looking at the pic of the stringer layout... Were there 2 more stringers closer to the gunwales? Seems like a long span from the outer 2 to the gunwale.

When I set my stringers I ran full tabs down one side of each stringer, let them kick off....then PB in a gallon ziploc bag....cut the tip off the bag and piped the pb under the stringers and pressed in with a spoon to fillet them.... I see your gonna have a tight spot between the ski locker stringers and the outer 2....

93,
I don't know if this will help or not... I'm just starting a 95 17ft capri project. Here is the bow portion of my boat without much ripped out. Mine had a live well in the bow section. I don't know if yours did or not. Either way, you might be able to get an idea of where the stringers go.

Hope this helps! Great job on your boat. I'm going to be referring to your posts a lot in my project.

Rick...that is the way it was setup from the factory...so i was just putting it back that way. And it also had a 1/2" deck. I am probably going back with 5/8, but maybe 3/4. I am not worried about weight, but more so deck height. my stringer height is almost a 1/4" higher right now as I forgot to add for lifting stringers off the deck. do you think 1/2" higher deck height would make a big difference? and I agree the inner stringers are going to be fun! lol

Good news...I stopped and grabbed a 6 pack of voted best beer in 1892...so I am ready to start bedding in the stringers this eve.

You might check where that extra height puts the bottom (backside) edge of your deck as it reaches the hull sides. It is often at or very near a chine & some additional support/structure or body line in the hull, and extra height may cause the deck to land on a less supportive area of the hull.

It isn't too late to take the 1/4" off the top, or even 3/8" (if you plan to use 5/8" decking) or 1/2" (3/4" decking)

I could be wrong, so just IMHO...

So far all else seems to be going great

Enjoy the frosty adult libation!

JB is spot on ^^ I would have the deck lay where it was..... It should rest on the chine...if it's higher there is no support under it....you can't screw the outside edge so we bed that in PB and tab to the gunwale.

Ok...the only place it touched the Chine was towards front for about 45 inches....then as it goes back it rises above it gradually all the way back. This was the setup factory. And there was no support under the deck at the chine other than the bulkheads. I am considering bedding strips length wise on the Chine to support deck....will take a video tomorrow to show exactly what I mean. Will get everyone's thoughts then.

Oh and it takes a lot of P.B. to bed the stringers! I have used a gallon and probably a 1/4 of the way done!

Yes you will go through a bunch of PB....be sure to fillet the sides of the stringers and bulks with a spoon to make a nice cove so your glass will be easier to bend up the stringer ;)

Should look something like this.

Yep...I used a large foam nap and made some pretty fillets! I took and used the foam roller dry at first to get the shape I wanted then just as it was starting to kick off I lightly dipped the foam roller into acetone and they look PURDY!!! LOL

FINALLY!!! a weekend to work on the boat! I am so excited to see how much I can get done. I have to finish tabbing transom and stringers cap them, and the top cap is ready to go back on! Then, I will finish the sides of the bulk heads..bed,tab,cap. My goal is to be ready to foam by next weekend. We will see how it goes. Will take some videos along the way!

Well have a pretty good weekend! Rained all day, but still got a good bit accomplished. I am looking to be on track to put the top cap on Thursday or Friday.
