putting in a new bench seat aka the girls seat across the engine cover. Which kind of foam would you install under the vinyl and why.

I would use the firmest foam they have for seating. It will hold it's shape better and last longer. This place sells foam for boat seats.

love veada I've used them a few time and Jon Yoder is the bomb. Prices good too.

Thinking about this for new front seats

need to get width at the arm though, that can be key on the swivel.

oh wait it has a 14" radius.

couple others have 13"

on the big boat

Our trashtable. Finished off a pre-made 24" round form Lowes, 8 screws from the underside and we have a table plus a trashcan. It works awesomely.

back tot he Carver

adding side boards. Don't mind all the red marking; that was the original design plan until i actually started to think about what i was doing. The new bench seat will rest in the opening for support (and sit on the engine cover). I'm going with a 1/4' foam vinyl to wrap it, getting that from veada as well.

It will have minimal storage, mostly used for support of the new seat. Now when the seat is out (when I'm trolling) i can put stuff in there.

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

cut outs for the 'jump seats'. Rather than go full bench all the way across, this allows for regular sitting rather than lounging but still a one peice solution. Also my side rod holders are in the way but it sounds better if it sounds like I thought is all thru logically...

Note the wood along the sides of the cover. Those lock it in place side to side, plus acts as a back stop so won't slide backwards

and finally the back. It is at about a 30 degree angle for a comfortable sit, but it doesn't show too well. There is a gap between the back and the seat, but i'm going 3-4" foam and that will allow. Plus I left the 'stops' mentioned above about an inch longer than i think i'll end up with. Why didn't I hinge/tie together? Because this is removable for fishing.

You wouldn't think it would take 15 hours to design and build this but it has. Good news, no major mis-cuts; in fact when in doubt on the sizing and functionality I went bigger so i could cut down. Not a usual process for me...

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

ok the walkway down to the cabin has a cover that folds up and out of the way. Problem is, over the years the opening is acting like my ball sack and slowly drooping I guess.

The cover has pieces on the side that are supposed to hang over the lip to keep water out. Well, over time the port side had been banging on the lip and has come loose as the opening has spread (insert sexual innuendo here).

So i needed a spacer. I've been removing some trim pieces as I have done the bench seat and thought hey these should work. And they do. The lip is perfect width and it is a rabbet so I am using that part to act as a top trim piece and when i sand the top to refinish it will act somewhat as a dam of finish to help block water intrusion. I've glued and screwed. I left the ends about an inch long so I can cut and sand smooth.

one side down, three more to go...

30 days in water. I think something is amiss.

I did email SEI and he suggested use it this year and return under warranty.

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

crappy pic, but wanted to show you plenty of glue. Plus i pull the clamps over next to where i'm getting ready to sink a 2", #10 pan head (stainless of course) so i get a good bite.

Also - my work bench is our old kitchen peninsula. I piano hinged to the garage wall and drop it with a saw horse underneath the rare time i need to do better quality work that the tuck tailgate allows.

and perspective on where it is going back. The panel right behind it needs the same expansion, the upper (fixed) part does not. I'll show more later but out of screws of proper size and only two beers left.

First coat on. Man is that wood drinking up the stuff. Couldn't find Penetrol but did get thinner. There are lots of different 'thinners' out there but just got old fashion stuff. Also, no bronze wool but just going to use 220 or better. Its an outside application to too overly concerned with the smoothness.

Lots of things to strip paint and stuff but couldn't find naval jelly, and i was at our local old school ace hardware store. Grampa use that **** for everything, including rust.

Gonna eat a ham cheese and egg burrito. Damn i'm glad i cook...

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

today has been a piddling day. With wine.

Adjusted a bunk a bit. Going to need a lot of adjusting off the trailer and probably multiple haulouts. Got to get this thing ready for a long trip.

Fixed the safety chains

made a bow chain.

drank wine

more urethane on the wood...

new fresh water tank in

look real close on the left of this pic and you will see a 1.5" strip of wood that hold the tank laterally. The straps are to keep any vertical movement from happening. The wood is protection against chafing.
