re:holes

(very) nominal weight reduction mostly air passage for moisture control..

I'll be putting mesh on the backside to finish them off so you wont see them.

oh and one thing that doesn't show very well in the pic - notice the two new side panels with the pockets in them. That is where the bench seat will rest but also i have them at a 30 or so degree angle - basically you have a toe kick so when the big un's hook you have a better stance.

every deck screw got some 4200 love.

and not a great pic but the new side panels are screwed to a treated balluster - but even though treated I put 4200 donw, then 4 washers to raise the wood off the floor for drainage then screwed tight.

up for cruising

took a lot of beer to get that thing planned properly./ The fold down part of it was an accident/afterthought. I had to move the perko switch a couple inches but other than that it looks like i planned it perfectly. Note how it come flush to the front of the engine cover when folded down. I am awesome

Not sure on the teak thought about just leaving it but i'll probably pull it off and sand and finish it. The lag bolts holding it on are brass might try to shine them up at the same time then if the finish on the wood it thick enough i can keep them that way.

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

here the top to the cabin. 13 coats.

Had to widen it about 1/4" so rather than just add a strip flush, i took some that i'm not putting back on that had a L to it at used it. Thought was now rather than looking like i added a piece it looks like an original trim. If you care, look back on page 27 on this thread. But then also realized the original hinge wouldn't work as it is now taller when folded on itself so ordered a taller blank and drill a **** ton of holes.

Now that it is all tightened up it doesn't leak any longer but because of it being tight i need to make some adjustments to have it close completely properly. That will involve resetting the lock, need to chisel the inside so the metal plate sits flush with the wood.

so how is this quality?

fun to find this stuff...

note the end that looks like where i cut it off was actually where someone had taken a knife and trimmed the sheathing and tapped in another wire; the accessory switch was powered off this one. This was the wire to the anchor light

never ceases to amaze me.

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

got the water tank all hooked up going to leak test today (headed to the lake taking a day off) and also got the water pump in. I put the pump behind the fridge just under the sink. Don't think it ever had one; the faucet is a pump style so not sure how it will work with the pump. Now going to pull wire to the fuse panel and get it running.

and just ordered this

apparently the old one has a lid that was too small for the thread to engage (think pumping out when they find the right size nipple) so they 'sealed' it off with what appears to be plumbers putty

cool this morning. Long sleeves, pants goggles and respirator...

got most of the 34 year old glue off; ab out 1/4 more. I wonder whats in that ****.

New headliner getting closer.

85% of the cabin has been cleared of old glue. Need to get to the big boat to get some supplies need to replace two small port windows to get water tight in the sleeping tubes.

wanting it to rain so i can test the water intrusion by the fresh water tanks. Been freaking raining all summer now nothing..

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

we got a nice rain yesterday and i still have plenty of leaks; but they are much much smaller. I need to redo a couple bolts on the bow railing and pull and reset the hatch. You can see where they tried to stop the leak with two different kinds of silicone.

Its not coming from around the bolts but under the frame. Really don't want to pull the 862 bolts that hold it in and didn't think i had a leak there. Oh well.

I'll get as good as i can before i do the new headliner but it going to be under cover storage soon and i'm only planning on keeping it for about 30 years.

of course if i did the truck bed liner i bet that would plug the holes.....

removed these

going solid black, like on the Hole's side windows. I temp'ed them on for now until I get the headliner done then going to make permanent. These were leaking bad but too glued in to remove/reseal without breaking.

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

well i guess the wrinkles came back... Here is the door to the anchor locker. We sanded, 6 or so coats of Helmsman and sanded the rusty hinges/handle and painted black with Mercruiser lower unit paint..

Re: Carver 2357 Montego

the four window frames have some light staining and calcium build up from the leaks. I'm sanding them.

Should I use some helmsman or just oil them up? Right now the only other thing with helmsman on it is the hatch to the anchor and the entryway outside.
