I refuse to fix mine. I have a simple flux capacitor mounted under the dash in my boat. I can go a comfortable speed even with a failed bearing....... I am afraid if I change the muffler bearing on my 2 stroke I will be forced to re-adjust my valves again....... new muffler bearing with the proper valve adjustment could trigger the flux capacitor......... I would then run the risk of hitting 88 mph...............THEN who knows where I would end up!

Your lack of maintenance WILL come back to bite your A***. There's no way that "simple" capacitor is going to take the place of a proper MB replacement and a thorough 2 stroke valve lash adjustment.

Make certain to use new billabong clips each time the bearing is checked or replaced as they get extremely brittle due to the heat of the gangle shaft being so close. I don't know why nobody ever came up with a reliable heat shield for this ?? As most of you already know they can be re-tempered but if not done correctly it can spell disaster !!!

now what kind of brazing rodr does one use with a muffler bearing, welding gives off too much heat, and warps the darn thing.

People get so upset when their muffler bearings go out. A quick easy fix is to remove the old one and duct tape the outside, WD-40 the inside and Gorilla glue it back in. Should run for another 1,000,000 miles.

Maybe I should change my muffler bearing before we go snipe hunting. I don't want to scare them off due to a rattling bearing.
BTW, anyone know where I can find a thermostat for an old Corvair? I was told I should probably change it while working on the muffler bearing.

60's model VW beetle thermostats interchange with Corvair they can be purchased at Bugs-R-Us auto parts.

Using a "simple flux capacitor" in this application is a mis-application of product. Your application clearly calls for a thermally compensated harmonically charged decibel reducing model..... And always remember proper 2 stroke valve adjustment can only be achieved with the power head at peak inverse operating temperature................................................. 'course having 15K plus post I'm not sure that all applies to your rig, or is the change over at 20K, I can never remember.

FYI you don't need to change the t/stat. you can remove it and clean it. did you know you can adjust it for whatever temp you want ??

just use a screwdriver and turn the screw until the back face is level with the groove in the housing while it's submerged in a morning cup of winter blend coffee. DON'T use summer blend as it will make the adjustment about 27 degrees off. Coffee needs to be right from the pot with no additives.
If you find your still lacking enough heat you can add the candle adapter in the back seat and then you'll roast inside.

I disagree. You CAN use the summer blend. But ONLY if you use the double back loop inverted left handed screw driver with the rubber tip.

And I thought the candle adapter went under the back seat on the port side to allow room for the optional water cooled turbo charger overflow reservoir.

Duct tape and bailing wire can fix anything.

BTW Any suggestions for spark plugs and wires for a 7.3 Power Stroke?

I have exciting news! For the people who have older style exhaust systems, Pertronix is in the process of finalizing the R&D on their muffler bushing to muffler bearing conversion kits! Their top guy, Professor Hasent Ben-Sobar has spent countless hours in the lab perfecting the conversion process. The leaked installation documents make the process sound very simple. Here's the procedure;

Step 1 Use a pick Axe, or some other suitable pointy tool to access your muffler bushing.
Step 2 Remove your bushing, and inspect it for wear. Do not use a muffler bushing that is looser than the factory recommended .00000000234 tolerance.
Step 3 Use the enclosed file to create a chamfer on the outside edge of the bushing, again being sure not to exceed the .00000000234 tolerance.
Step 4 Install the enclosed roller bearings and cage, being sure to liberally lube them with the enclosed Sperm Whale grease.
Step 4 1/8 Install the modified assembly back into your vehicles muffler.
Step 5 Install the enclosed oil line from the axillary oil plug of the hydrosolator pump to the enclosed plastic baggy that surrounds the assembly.
Step 6 Open a can of your favorite malt based beverage, and consume approximately 13/16 of it before proceeding to step 7.
Step 7 Carefully cover the hole you made in the muffler with the pick Axe, using the enclosed bondo based goo. Hopefully you only made a 3" by 2" hole, like we should have specified in step 1 (whoops).
Step 8 Start the engine and let it idle for approximately 3 days (longer if a leap year). During that period, the bearings should either seat correctly, or fly out the exhaust tip (in that case pick up the pieces, and start again at step 1).

Remember to never raise your engines rpm above 2000 while your kit is installed! Observing this warning will guarantee many weeks of trouble free enjoyment.

order the kit direct from atlantas, but for the 5 year s nbetween oil changes, you need to use their greased owlsh-t adative to your oil after the install, with the first oil change

I had to move my candle adapter to the starboard side when I put in my remote mounted turbo. I just didn`t have the room.

With the marine industry in such hard times these days, and to ask this question on a boating forum........

Besides, marine bearings are proprietary, and will not fit on the flame compensation spindle without a whole bunch of modification. If you want a automotive bearing to work on a marine application, I would suggest getting a boat car.

But he's from California, with all of the smog related rules and the newly required use of the non-cylindrical transflutter exhaust recycler, they are using the new style pellersty tubes. So he has to use the automotive version. Whew, that was a close one.
