Re: Throwing in the towel

I've watched this thread from the beginning and I can only say; you've got the patience of a saint! If it runs well enough at 4200rpm,
why not leave it? (but, then again........)

My plugs show very lean conditions,if I leave it,she wont last long..as much as I would love to just run it,too much involved at this point.I find it someday and post results.

I see you posting on the "Raystown" thread. Does this mean everything is good with the boat, now?

its close enough to run.Still little on the lean side yet on the plugs.I ended up using the bigger racing needle and seats in carb and it really cleaned things up a good bit.But still constant Pop,So I drilled out needle and seat another 1/16 and she ran to wot without a hiccup.

Now that's weird. I wonder if the rebuild kits you were using had the hole in the seat too small? Not able to deliver enough fuel at WOT. That is an odd one if that's the case.

Do you know how big you had to drill it out? I have a couple old needle/seat from my Mercruiser 140HP Rochester that I can check against yours if you want. They are from aftermarket rebuild kits and I never had WOT fuel starvation problems running them.

Re: Throwing in the towel

Another thing I noticed was the air horn gasket semi-covered the bowl vent.I had been using same gasket that original owner used and never thought twice to check. So I ended up using the other gasket supplied in the kit and that was culprit(Still to be tested). But again I believe it was a number of things that came down to it....This boat was run to the ground and back when I got my hands on her.Everything had been torn apart at least once and never replaced correctly...Was it worth it? I learned a lot on this trip....Id do it again tomorrow but lets enjoy this one for the summer.

I get all my rebuild kits from a local NAPA.The racing needle and seat was purchased at a local speed shop here in town.THE SIZE ON racing needle and seat is a .135 and stock I believe was .110???
