    1985 85 hp force

The OEM choke is replaced. Do not know if it is an aftermarket universal electrical choke. The OEM choke solenoid is still in place.

    1985 85 hp force

You can use all Chrysler remote controls and US Marine controls up until 1994-95. Then Brunswick started to put on Mercury LU and ignition system. The remote controls then had Mercury style connectors.

    Tachometer for 1974 135hp

Jerryjerry the ignition system Winnercougar has in his 135Hp is the battery driven Motorola CD system. The stator is only charging the battery and the white wire that is for the tachometer is a signal from the CD box. I think it is the same signal as the signal to the ignition coil but do not...

    Tachometer for 1974 135hp

First of all automotive tachometer are for four strokers, your engine is a two stroker. The two stroker is firing at each revolution of the crank shaft the four stroker at every second revolution. If the tacometer you try to use take the signal from the low voltage circuit of the ignition coil...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Okey, there you are. Franz Marine is the best source but not the cheapest. I do not know where you somewhere else can get warranty (but I am in Sweden so I do not know all suppliers in the US), maybe Mastertech Marine.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Topgun, yes I am talking about the length of the drive shaft. No there are no stampe or other marks for the ratio. Best way to check it in my opinion if the LU is not apart is to turn the drive shaft one turn and check how much the prop shaft turn. If ratio 2:1 the prop shaft turn half a turn...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Topgun and The Force, all 1 piece gear case from I believed 1977-78 when it was introduced up to about 1994 when Mercury started to put their Mercury LU on. You can put a 2 piece drive shaft LU on, it will fit. The 2 piece drive shaft LU came at Force engines in 1989. I think there was three...

1996 Force 120 with crazy compression numbers

Those number do not sounds so weird. OEM factory service manual through 1991 A models call for 145-165 PSI for the 120Hp. It can be the gauges that shows incorrect values, but in my opinion it is pretty normal. I have two Chrysler 45Hp "super sport" that was ligthly "hotted" from factory with a...

    Idling

Agree with both Scott and Racerone, maybe the carb/carbs needs a cleaning. Change fuel filter and if no filter, add one between the fuel pump and carb/carbs. Todays fuel are not as good as it was before, with a lot of ethanol in it, it absorbs water. Fuel that sits for a while become bad and it...

Force 125 1988 Water drains out the exhaust

ggausa, as racerone says you need to get the water level above the impeller housing. The impeller is not self priming it need water in the impeller housing. When running in a bucket you need a deeper bucket, the water level need to be about 4-5 inch above the LU split line.

Force 125 1988 Water drains out the exhaust

When you run it, did you run it with muffs or in the water? When running on muffs your are just able to idle cause the water flow from a garden hose do not deliver the amount of water the engine need. The impeller produce more water flow then the garden hose can deliver. When running with muffs...

    98’ Mercury Force starting issues

Sounds like a bad battery. Do as pnwboat suggest check all power connections and keyswitch. Maybe you have a bad regulator/rectifier and when the battery have sit for some hours it is able to start the engine but the charging system do not charge the battery while running. When you then try to...

88 50 hp Force No Spark

outboardignitiondotcom has troubleshoot chart for you engine. You have to check voltage from the stator, voltage from the trigger. The stator charge the capacitors in the CDI box, the triggers give signals to the CDI box to fire (discharge the capacitors) to the ignition coils. As your engine is...

    Starter solenoid

As the solenoids has two small terminals the housing of the solenoid do not have connection to the control coil. Solenoids with one small terminal has the control coil grounded internally to the housing. Connect one of the small terminals to ground and the other to the starting wire...

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

Just have to add. The OEM workshop manual for Force 85Hp through 1988 year model calls for 135-155 PSI. The 85 Hp Force are the same power head as the 85Hp Chrysler in bore and stroke, so I think the compression will be in the same range.

    1978 Chrysler 85HP Powerhead Swap

I have checked in my workshop manuals Clymer and Seloc (do not have OEM manuals for this engine) and Clymer says 145-155 PSI, Seloc says 150-165 PSI. I think yours 150 PSI will stay there, maybe rise some PSI after break in. But 150 PSI is definitely in spec and good after a rebuilt power head...

    Fouling spark plugs

Winner I would suggest you to look at the recircular/puddle drain system. There are small screens that cloggs from carbone. They are under the "dog bone" cover at the same side as the fuel pump. Clean them and check that the check valves closing as they should. The check valves are small pedals...

    Fouling spark plugs

I have not read through the whole thread right now but I have some questions. Do you have the Motorola CD box? Do you have points in the distributor? If you have points, is the gap set at 010 in? Have you clean the fuel recircular/puddle drain system? Setting of the air fuel mixture screws? If...

70s force 70... No reaction from key

The start circuit is as simple as the hot wire (yellow or yellow/red) when key in start position from keyswitch S terminal goes to the terminal stripe at engine. From the stripe to the interlocking switch (shifter needs to be in neutral when starting) at the shift lever and then to the starter...

    FORCE 85 HP (1989) 856X9F - new ignition...desparate

Black wire from head is from the overheat sensor and goes to terminal "overheat" at terminal strip. The sensor is a bimetallic sensor and when overheat it ground out. You can wire up a horn or a light as warning for overheat. Connect a wire at A terminal at keyswitch (hot, +12V) in RUN position...
