planning first trip to thousand islands

Got an Empire Pass? Cause that will get you into all state parks and their launches. Usually better than the town/city launches with closer parking. Couple launch/retrieves and it pays for itself.

    Towing more than capacity?

Over capacity is over capacity. All it takes is some kid darting out in the street in front of you and you can't stop. Or Grandma pulling out in front of you and you T-bone her again cause you can't stop. Legal fees, court fees, etc. To put it another way...wanna be a YouTube celebrity? Get...

Bow Trolley on Trailer instead of Winch, stock

I gotta agree with Scott....that was added on by some shadetree mechanic. Those welds in the back look like something I would accomplish...and I've never welded. In all the years I've been around boats, I have yet to see something like that. IF that were mine, I'd be looking to ditch that wonky...

    When To Dewinterize

For my location it's usually mid-April/early May. A lot of the lakes I frequent do have logs early on in the season so I like to give it as much time as possible to clear. Let someone else find em first.

    Are we in trouble?

If you're getting a warranty on the rebuilt engine I don't see an issue pressing forward. But I think I'd at a minimum start inquiring about other marinas in your area to see who has a good reputation for being honest and take your boat there in the future for repairs.

Trailer questions for vintage Glastron Tri-hull

I think you're at your limit with what can be done with the current trailer. You *might* gain some tongue weight if you are able to swap the winch post with the trailer jack *BUT* you gotta be careful with that winch handle as it could possibly come in contact with the tow vehicle. I think...

1986 SunRunner “The Big shark” My first boat

Service manual for the engine/drives will have the lubrication requirements/recommendations. I'd look up the Volvo literature for that. Nothing on that boat is manufacturer specific so...I'd look no further than iboats to upgrade parts. Besides, you get a forum discount. Can't help ya on the...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Funny.... Had the same experience with buying my first boat. Went with my dad to all the name brands - none gave me the time of day. Then went to Bayliner. Guess who got the sale? I let all the reps know that they lost a sale that year as they couldn't be bothered to give me the time of day...

    Hey Newbies

Hey noobs....if you want info on your new-to-you purchase perhaps, maybe possibly, you could include some info / specs / photos. Otherwise the answers are.... 1. It floats....maybe 2. It runs....possibly 3. It was manufactured between now and then. 4. It's registerable....if you have the...

I would also mention have all your safety gear on board. I have seen the US do safety checks on a number of boats throughout the years. For Singer, they also have a dock where you can take your private boat. Get there early to get a prime spot on the inside of the dock - outside is facing the...

    Sea Nymph 1987 FM146BR

My only concern with a boat like that would be adding a pedestal could possibly make it more tippy than normal. IF it were my boat, I'd put a nice hunk of marine grade ply (sealed well) with a backer across that back bench as is. Then secure the pedestal to the bench/backer. I wouldn't go...

Hook up boat engine to permanent magnet generator.

Many modern vehicles are including power ports (as options) as people like their gadgets to charge. 110V is becoming a "norm" of sorts. **Wife's 2017 4Runner has a 400W inverter at the back seat from the factory. IF I was looking for overnight AC power, it'd be a battery and inverter for...

    Second fuel tank

I think you're trying to over engineer this. Just get a second tank and let it be standalone. When needed, move the hose from the empty tank to the full tank and continue your day.

planning first trip to thousand islands

Depends on the day and weather but a 14' boat can handle the St. Lawrence. I will second/third stopping at TI Bait to get your nav chart. I can't stress enough....use this as a guide but keep your eyes peeled for shoals as they can & will come up out of absolutely no where. Water levels...

    WHAT DID I JUST BUY?

Pandemic has been doing crazy things with boat prices so probably not out of line. Would have been about a grand (or more) cheaper pre-pandemic. But is what it is. I remember seeing those boats outside K-Mart back in the 80's. This is the era that soured everyone on Bayliner so I would very...

1990 Four Winns 190 Freedom Deck Questions

Floor is structural in a boat so I'd be securing it with "glue"/pb and screws. If its truly just the carpet, a wire brush may make quick work of the remnants to give you enough of a clean surface to glue new carpet to. But if it were me in that case....I'd be cleaning up the floor, painting it...

1990 Four Winns 190 Freedom Deck Questions

FourWinns went wood free in the early 2000's - my 2005 was touted as wood free construction. Before that you have wood stringers and transom. If you've read through the forums here you have undoubtedly seen it mentioned that the deck is the very last thing to rot - stringers and transom go...

Recommendation on 1995 Griffis & Sons 14' "Stumpknocker"

    1. There was probably wood structure under the fiberglass bench that provided stability. If its flexing, either it wasn't built with reinforcement OR its garden mulch which requires replacement. The proper way to tell would be to drill an inspection hole or two to find out what you're dealing...

    Best out board motor lock

Someone wants it bad enough, they will take it. A few years back a few boats had their props removed. Thieves tilted the motors up, went boat to boat tossing their ill gotten gains into their boats. Got spotted and they sped off in their boat. Best of my knowledge they weren't caught. Look...

    Olympics

Surprisingly we're really into the Curling events this year - streaming on Peacock. Even wife, who's not into it, got really involved in the matches we were watching. Kids are somewhat into Luge and waiting on Bobsled - one of my personal favorites. Women's moguls was ok. Also watched the...
