Doing some research on adding tilt trim

Why do you want to remove the kingpin? If you add a T@T you won't need to remove it. The T@T you need is from the older motors. Good luck finding anything to change it over. Best bet is find one with T@T already installed.

70s Chrysler 16hp outboard funny runner

Sounds like it's sucking air somewhere? Do the starting fluid test: start the motor, spray SF around the intake side, if spraying makes a difference? then it's sucking air somewhere. Possible the fuel pumps diaphragm needs eplaced? Excess smoke: the motors been setting and the gas/oil that's...

    WATER PUMP LINER

No liner for the pump. They came bare pot metal. The pot metal can be in really bad shape and still work.

    What is this?

Just tuck it up inside the case or run the boats hose to the lower unit. Or just cut it off, won't hurt anything. Lots of times the pitot tube on the boat: the tip gets broken off and the speedo doesn't work, make sure it's not broken and the pitot is in the locked position.

    1991 Force 90hp starting problem

The adjustments need to be done on a warm motor, in the water and in gear. Some motors, no matter what you do just don't idle as good as you think they should. The 85: the factory sent out a bulletin stating the 85 needs to have the air screw set at 1 turn out and left there. All of the 85's I...

90' Force 150 HP Not Firing

Most auto parts stores have a load tester to check the battery. Batteries made today don't last like the older ones. Working on an older boat with twin batteries. One's marked Jan13, the other May14 The 2014 is shot, the 2013 still holds power and works great. Girlfriends car: the battery lasts...

    1991 Force 90hp starting problem

Buy muffs and duct tape them in place. Needs to be dry, dry,,dry. Then turn the hose up as far as it goes. Bucket: needs to have the water 4-5 inches over the cavitation plate. These pumps aren't self priming and needs to be under water to start.

1989 Force 85 HP Starter Disengages

Armatures don't usually go bad, I've seen one that needed replacing. Just sand paper the copper connectors with 200g sandpaper. Get the Mercury or old stock Force brush sets. OEM bendix is where the major cost is incurred.

1989 Force 85 HP Starter Disengages

90% of the time all you need is to take it apart and clean it. I've only replaced the bendix 3-4 times in my career. Then it was because someone lubed it too excessively and got grease up inside the rubber. Redbarron is right about the new starters from China= JUNK

    1989 Force 85 WOT

The butterflies may be past horizontal or may not go horizontal. Operate the lever by hand and see how far it goes? The final output is affected by prop size, load. A 21 makes the motor work harder than a 15p. It's a combination on the load, prop and boat. Idle has no effect on wide open...

    1991 Force 90hp starting problem

IF???? it started at wide open??? Then move the throttle back and start it at a slower speed. Make sure the muffs are on or the lower unit is DEEEEP in a bucket. 4-5" over the cavitation plate. If the timing was at 28d. I'd not worry about it.
