    Gimbal Bearing Alignment/Installation Tool Question

The way they suggest and I did mine was before pulling out the old bearing, slid driver on alignment bar, inserted alignment bar till it bottomed out in coupler. Pushed driver to the bearing and pulled bar back out 1/4 - 3/8" . Push driver against bearing again, without moving bar and marked bar...

Knocking sound - what is it? [video]

Who ever put that gasket on should be taken to the wood shed and beaten. Or at least have his / her tools taken away. No paper gaskets on exhaust. No gaskets that cover the exhaust ports on engine. Wrong gasket.

Help identifying the water coming from inboard/outboard motor on right side of wake

Should probably close your 1st thread concerning this. It is something hanging below the hull that is mounted to the transom. Probably a transducer. Very common and some of them have add on (read cost extra) splash guards available. Normally caused because the xducer isn't mounted correctly /...

    Kill switch replacement

Ones with the black wires are for the outboards. As shown in the diagram, the purple feeds the ignition, with the lanyard switch in series in the circuit. In your 1st picture, you show a purple wire with a connection on it. Break that connection and install the safety switch in between the 2...

    Kill switch replacement

Probably can start by indicating what propulsion system you have. Different between the outboard and sterndrive. PS: That ignition switch has been bubba'd. Suggest installing proper sealed ring terminals on the wires and reterminate

Power steering return line keeps blowing at cooler 95' 7.4 Bravo1

Interesting. Stated it was line from cooler to PS pump. Never seen a return line to the PS pump "blow". Rub thru: yes, Fall apart from age: Yes. But never blow, since there is zip on it for pressure. It would see pressure if there was a serious restriction at the the return fitting on the...

Easier time putting on the trailer

When I didn't have a boat, used to bring a cooler, kids and wife down to sit on the seawall and watch the fun and games. Good cheap Sunday afternoon entertainment

Just bought boat, most gauges inoperable

Perhaps the grey wire in the 9 / 10 pin plug isn't tight or a loose connection / bad wire terminal back on the engine for the grey wire. I would be triple checking grounds, with so many wonky things going on.

    Popped through the intake.

Was it a marine rebuild or an automotive / truck rebuild? Being a raw water cooled engine (I don't see a heat exchanger), the gaskets, freeze plugs, water pumps are different (and cams are marine, not automotive grinds).

Just bought boat, most gauges inoperable

On the tach issue, there is rotary selector switch on the back the tach that sets tach for the number of cyl the engine has. Move that switch CW and CCW a few times gently and reset for number of cyl's. Those contacts get some corrosion on them and moving, wipes them clean 90% of the time...

Easier time putting on the trailer

I can see some newer folks being very leery of "driving onto" the trailer, especially on windy days or in a current. "Power loading" (using power to push up to bow stop) is a no no at more and more ramps. Some guides for the sides (and maybe target bunks / rollers) and more practice with...
