Setting up for House Battery -> looking for feedback on loads

What is the goal of your rewire? In my case, the goal is redundancy. Brought about by a situation on a friend’s boat where we lost his starting battery (shorted cell) 20 miles out of port in the waining hours of a mid-February day The motor is wired to the switch, not a battery. That way I can...

Has anyone used the ready lime (not the brand name) to descale their outboard

Calcium is very susceptible to acidic solutions. White vinegar being one of them. Lots of commercial descaling products on the market. We use this to clean buildup out of our aluminum coolant housings https://rydlymemarine.com/

I want to place a metal patch on a Zinc-Coated steel gasoline tank opening.

How old is the tank? Metal fuel tanks were fabricated using Terne sheet until they switched over to plastics. Terne sheet is a lead, tin and antimony alloy used almost exclusively on fuel tanks when I got into the metals industry in the late 70’s. It’s easy to solder, but considered...

Can not stop wanting a Butterball Turkey.

Turkeys are dumb with a capital D…lol Had a 5 or 6 show up in the backyard a couple of weeks ago. Took them 10 minutes to figure out how to get past the four board, split rail fence separating yard from the field. Could easily squeeze between the boards or backed up a bit and flew over it...

    I have a Lawrence 9 ti2, blank white screen.

Power and ground issues can cause all kinds of weird problems in electronics. First thing I’d do is a permanent fix for the power/ ground issue. Run through the transducer configuration page to confirm the transducer is setup properly. Configure a split screen display using sonar and...

How bad of an idea is this for OB support while trailering?

Wow.....such a violate response to the mere suggestion there is a "no drill, no tool" solution to the problem.........lol Not sure how slipping a block of wood or PVC (with slot) around the extended tilt cylinder, then lowering the drive to hold the block in place is "adding armour", but OK.

How bad of an idea is this for OB support while trailering?

Sounds like you need a scag saver, not a transom saver In that case, a “ram support block” would work well, but a 2x4 wedged between the tilt ram and motor would suffice w/o the need for tools

Best way to connect 6 awg to 14 awg stranded wire

The reason you can’t find a connector is that the wires are ridiculously mismatched to be spliced From an electrical stand point, the 6 awg wire (13.3) has 6 times the carrying capacity as 14 awg. wire (2.08). At this point the 14 awg wire becomes the fuse. Normally, the 6 awg supply and...

self leveling or motorized trim tabs

I run the same boat Wouldn’t consider self actuating Sizing chart said to use 9 x 18 tab but Bennett suggested 12x12 “classic” tabs to save transom space Works great in any condition. Too much tab if anything

Best way to connect 6 awg to 14 awg stranded wire

Several ways to do this…. Use a 2-14 awg splice/reducer coupler. Top with epoxy lined heat shrink Get a 6-10 awg butt splice with epoxy lined heat shrink. Double up the 14 awg to fit crimp Use a 14-8 submersible cable splice kit. Trim off the outer strands of the 6 awg to fit in the coupler

    Removing regret

Lots of misinformation going around on this subject. The federal regulation is as follows 1. Manufacturers are required to install an engine cut-off switch on applicable boats manufactured after January 1, 2020 2. There is no requirement to retrofit a boat built prior to January 1, 2020 3...

A lot happens in the 3 seconds it takes the algorithm to verify your payment method ;) Can’t remember the last time I was asked to “make an account” to buy or do anything. Probably do 85% of my on-line shopping through my Amazon Prime account. Use PayPal for the others What company are you...

    Livewell design

Not a fan of valves on a bait well. I have a 3/4" scoop intake in front of a seacock and pump (800 gph) on the bottom of the hull. The scoop intake eliminates priming issues and circulates water while at rest. No need to run the pump if running or anchored up. Pump runs to 3/4” spray bar...

Major stores NOW DEMAND I open a full account to buy anything.

The validity of the card is not the issue. It’s who authorized the purchase. “ Card present transactions occur in-store, where the merchant can review the identifying documents of the cardholder for legitimacy and take other security steps, like using a chip-enabled card terminal, to further...

How/where to put in a stereo in my (new to me) Triton 175 fishing boat?

FYI...... Know a guy who was an acoustics Engineer for the Navel Research laboratory who was also a Charter Boat Captain. Shared some recordings of a group of guys fishing in a boat above him. In 70' of water, music and voices sounded like he was sitting in the boat with them. Foot steps and...
