    melted stator ? - 73 Johnson 65hp

First off, let me say that the 1973 motors were notorious for leaking charge coils. That said, I can't tell whether it is the present coils leaking or previous ones that have been replaced. Pull the flywheel for verification.

    '55 Johnson 5.5 gas can

The twin hose pressure tanks were not used since 1959 and often are worth more than the whole motor. Your best bet is the Antique Outboard Club www.aomci.org.

1957 fd-11 johnson skeg part number?

Consider how it was made and it will make sense. The upper and skeg parts were bolted together, then the inner cavities were machined. So, in theory, no other two parts will match exactly. Some other parts made this way are the cylinder & crankcase and connecting rods.

1957 fd-11 johnson skeg part number?

There is none because the skeg is matched to the upper part of the gearcase. Yeah, some people have succeeded in mismatching them and gotten away with it, but that isn't supposed to happen.

1957 18 hp Johnson FD-11 Pinion gear part number help

If the pinion gear shows obvious wear, you can bet the other gears are worn also. And bearings/bushings. Do some better diagnosing before spending $$$.

    BRP Engine Tuner ?

I don't know what you have read, but don't try running it in a drum at fast throttle with the prop removed. It might blow apart at 10,000 RPM

Setting points on 50's-70's Evinrudes with a meter

Actually, the factory service manual says to have it set to full throttle. It does not matter, except that having it up against full throttle stop helps to hold it from rotating while messing with it.

Johnson 40hp how to find out the year and model from the serial number

As far as I can figure out, OMC built motors at Calhoun, Georgia, from 1990 to 2000. Workers received layoff notices on Christmas Eve, 2000.

Johnson 40hp how to find out the year and model from the serial number

"G" in serial number indicates it was made in Georga. If a list of Georgia serial to model numbers exists, I certainly have never seen it. If anybody out there has such a list, please share it.

    1976 25hp Johnson ignition question

Universal (almost) way to determine. Rotate shaft to top dead center on one cylinder. The set of points that are just about to open are the ones for that cylinder.

    small hole on reed plate?

That hole is part of a passage leading between the upper main bearing and the intake manifold. Any oil leaking past the upper bearing is drawn down to the intake manifold and recycled instead of making a mess and fouling the magneto breaker points..
