    Timing question 70 hp

It's supposed to reach full advance before the carbs reach full open. Just how much is the question. If it has been messed with there is no shortcut it must be done in the correct order according to the book. Guessing will only produce poor performance at best or engine damage at worst.

2hp evinrude gear case re-seal question

No gasket. As for the seals O.D., it is ok to use some liquid gasket sealer of your choice such as permatex aviation.

    Evinrude 7520 clearance question

Crankshaft end play is normal. And there is no adjustment or shims. Now of course if it is totally worn out, that is a different matter.

    6hp johnson 6R -71E timing question

You are missing the whole point (not pun) of the marks. Those marks are there for setting the points with the special tool timing fixture. The points are to be set to just barely start to open when the marks are aligned. Yeah, somebody figured out that the flywheel could be substituted for...

    1957 FD-11K

You already answered your own question. The letter suffix identifies any mid-year engineering changes ---IF-- any changes were made. Otherwise, it means nothing.

    69 and up 25hp - a good choice ?

"69 and up" covers a lot of territory, with some important changes. My take is '69 & '70 are fine motors. '71 & '72 got more emission control and did not run as well at idle speeds. But you mention "zipping" as priority, so you should be happy. '73 got the Low-Tension magneto, OK, but...

    Gear oil milky?

There is a reason the factory says to do regular oil changes (minor water intrusion & wear particles). Change it and don't worry about it.

How does it not work? Won't kill the motor? Gotta be a problem with the wiring or hookup.

What to jump on old Johnson 65HP

Post #8 is totally wrong!! You will blow the power pack if you continue ignoring advice. The key does not supply power to the ignition system. Grounding the black/yellow stops the motor as previously stated.

What to jump on old Johnson 65HP

Ignition system does not require any battery power. In fact, jumping battery power to the ignition can cause $$$ damage. Grounding the black/yellow wire STOPS the motor.

1959 Johnson seahorse 10hp qd-20 wont idle and need bracket

What is is, is it holds the lower shroud mounts, and also is the attachment point for remote control shift cable (if using remote controls). Part number 306155, seems to be obsolete.

Rebuilding 1980 johnson 35 Cant split the case?

Actually, I meant nothing insulting or funny. I just said in a few words what was said by others----look for some more bolts, like behind the manifold. I was in a hurry, as I had to go to the bank for an identity / money theft purpose. A stressful day.

    Fastwin Shift Lever Rubs

Simple. Shift lever is bent from laying the motor on that side. I've seen more than a few that way. Lay the motor on the other side. The steering bracket is much tougher than the shift lever.

Prop hub is shot. You shouldn't be able to push it out with a screwdriver. You need a new prop.
