    Overcharging Evinrude

Along that line of thought, the first thing you should do is check the battery and battery terminals. Loose or corroded connections there are an ignition system killer. Don't just look at them and wiggle them. Remove them and clean shiny bright and reinstall tightly. You did do that, right...

    Overcharging Evinrude

Never, ever disconnect the battery when running! Doig so is likely to destroy the rectifier, if not more. But that will fix your suspected overcharging--(it won't charge at all).

Johnson no serial numbers. What is my model code?

I think your motor was made in Calhoun, GA (the "G" in the serial number). I have been looking and asking for a serial number list for the GA motors for some time now. If anybody has such a list, how about sharing it?

new to me 1970 Johnson 25hp tiller short shaft. locked up

Oxy/ace is better. You want to get it hot to do any good. Just don't melt it and you'll be ok. Like I said, it's a daily thing around these parts.

new to me 1970 Johnson 25hp tiller short shaft. locked up

At least the price was right. "Free" is exactly what that thing is worth. All kidding and ribbing aside, yes, those stuck bolts are something we deal with daily here in salt-water country. You might have to get a bit violent with that head, depending on how bad it is. Use lots of heat if you...

    1969 Johnson 4hp shaky throttle

Parts 32, 33, 34 comprise the throttle friction assy. Adjustable by tightening or loosening the bolt. But, as often happens, somebody may have had the coils replaced without adjusting the air gap to the flywheel magnets. If the coils are dragging on the magnets, flywheel rotation will try to...

56 Johnson Javelin 30 Restoration / New to this

The carburetor will be much easier to get off if you first remove the flywheel. You most likely will need to do that anyway because the coils are probably shot.

    Flushing Evinrude 9.9

^^^^agreed^^^By the time cooling water gets to the thermostat, it is on it's way back out to sea. So any fresh water you put in there is mostly just going to go back to sea, but supposedly some might be able to backflow through the system. But to do so, it has to get through the stationary...

    Help with old evinrude

That battery CD system was state of the art in 1972. Can be a PITA for today's techs who do not understand it and just start replacing parts. There are any number of possible faults. Worse, the factory service manual describes troubleshooting with an obsolete tester. Got any old grey-haired...

Johnson meteor eletramatic mod- V4TL13A 100HP

Almost all outboard props have some sort of rubber cushion in the hub to protect against impacts or shocks such as shifting gears. It is the rubber hub that fails and slips. If that happens, the prop can be re-hubbed (maybe) or simply replace the defective prop.

Johnson meteor eletramatic mod- V4TL13A 100HP

Easy to test the prop hub yourself for slipping. Make a mark on the plastic prop nut and another on the prop itself, aligned with the first one. Run the motor till suspected slippage occurs. Stop motor and check the marks. If no longer aligned, it slipped.

Oil on the ribbed areas will help them slide into their holes. But it sounds like your cable is torn up. If that's true, the only real way to repair it is replace it (the cable). Part number 383595. Be sure you are sitting down when you find out the price.

You wrote: " With the starter housing laying upside down I put the spring in and turned the pully counterclockwise to tighten the spring." That is correct. But I know what you did wrong---the same thing everybody does the first time. The equalizer spring must be pre-assembled onto the...
