    Sticking solinoid?

    1. Where are you grounding your meter neg lead? 2. Disconnect both wires from small solenoid terminals. Now check resistance (OHMS) across the two small terminals. Should be just a few ohms. 3. Alternately, with both wires disconnected, connect a spare piece wire between one small terminal...

    Sticking solinoid?

OK, then with that info, there should be 12v on only one small terminal when key is turned to start. Other terminal is grounded, either by safety switch or directly. I believe it is directly on that model.

    Sticking solinoid?

+12V at both small terminals tells you right there that one of the small terminals is not grounded. Now the big question is is it a OMC solenoid or has somebody put a car solenoid in it?

    Need help with tachometer

I know nothing about the tach you posted. But the tach you need works off an AC alternator, before it is rectified to DC. That's enough to tell me that (+) and (-) DC input don't get it. Maybe someone else knows more than I do. You're welcome to check around. BTW, you are standing in a...

    Need help with tachometer

That plug is for a tach. The motor should have a terminal strip on it. Tach connects to the yellow-with-grey-stripe wire, and ground. Both are carried forward to the remote control, assuming it hasn't been tampered with. Third wire on the plug is for night illumination.

    Need help with tachometer

Don't know about that tach, except it won't work on your '79 85hp. You need an alternator tach which counts the pulses from the alternator.

    1974 Evinrude 25hp wont run.

So, the motor has been sitting "awhile", and you have rebuilt the carb. Have to ask, did you check the high speed orifice plug in the carb? It is deep in the hole behind the hex drain plug in the carb bowl. It must be clean. And I assume you are using fresh fuel, right? How much compression...

    1974 Evinrude 25hp wont run.

It ain't the timing unless you got the blue coil wires swapped. You suggest the tiller handle. Put the shift in neutral and turn the twist grip toward "Fast" as far as it will go (in neutral). That is the proper start position.

1974 evinrude 25 hp (MOB) Man Over Board WIREING

Dalejam, the picture you posted is incorrect, and can't work the way somebody has wired it there. Not only that, but the grounded terminal you red-circled would get ripped off by the flywheel magnets on the first revolution. Your back-feed theory is also incorrect. It just doesn't work that way

    1975 Johnson 9.9 running on 1 cylinder

Has anybody told you yet that those 1974-76 9.9 & 15hp motors are notorious for fouling spark plugs? We couldn't make some of them run one weekend when brand new. The factory couldn't keep them running either. Some will argue, but that was my experience with them back in "The Day". Sorry...

1974 evinrude 25 hp (MOB) Man Over Board WIREING

Actually, the picture you posted is incorrect. It goes like this. (Disregard the charging part if you do not have it)

1974 evinrude 25 hp (MOB) Man Over Board WIREING

Simple. There are two blue wires, one has a white stripe, one to each of the two coils. Connecting those two wires together kills the spark and the motor quits running. The MOB switch does just that when the lanyard is yanked off. The MOB switch is NOT connected to ground on this motor (but...

    64 Johnson 9.5 “Turtle Motor”

There is nothing to prevent water level equalizing between inside and outside the cowling. There is a rubber flap sort of a seal in there, but not water tight.

1959 Glastron need to find a starter solenoid

If you have 12+ Volts at the starter, and the starter is not rotating, the starter has a defect. Safety switch is a dual mercury switch on the throttle gears. But again, 12V and no go, it is a starter problem OR---OR---OR, the motor is not grounded. Note: the thumb screw holding the cable to...

    35hp Johnson

So, in reality you are asking if a 1989 powerhead will fit on a 1977 motor? Somehow, I doubt it, but haven't gone through all the possible changes.
