    Wet easy to find what you’re looking for. Likely about 8 of every 10 boats made in that year had your engine in it. Or not far off it. Your engine will be the same as any GM 3.0 from the late 80’s right up to about 2000. Ball park. Won’t be the same as a ‘64 car engine though.

    How much outboard motors have improved.

    Is this from the old 4 cylinder classic 40/45/50 motor or the 3 cylinder 40 that would be more common in 1992 ? Sounds very economical. The best and most efficient of modern engines around that size will likely use 4 gallons or more an hour at full throttle.

    Your engine is simply not man enough. Get yourself a good old 2 cylinder Yamaha or merc 2 stroke. One that’s a big as you can manage to easily manage. Even an 8-15hp 2 stroke will see a huge difference over what you have. No doubt.

    Hi. Sounds like another candidate for the famous crap cap. I’d replace the distributor cap and rotor. I’m always banging on about this on these engines. But honestly causes 99% of all issues on these particular engines.

And sorry if I’ve asked before, but have you manually tried to select gear using the actual rod itself…the one the gear lever and assembly actually attaches to. But like you say..if you’ve actually had the gearbox opened up and can visibly see the gear...

    I’d say that you could still have such an issue even with a presumed new and healthy battery. If your alternator isn’t doing what it’s meant to. Worth a look. See what it’s putting out when running.

    Hi. The matter of the head gasket mentioned, would be a notable point for me. Would be a very rare event for it to fail on these engines, all being well and normal. Not a common thing at all, unless there was a reason for it or something else going on.
