4.3 motor swap with truck engine

The bolts that are metric are side motor mounts, flywheel cover mounts, starter bolts. Metric is an M10 thread, US is 3/8-16. Ironically on a metric block all other threads are US , not sure why GM did mix and match on same block. When I swapped my metric 4.3 for a 5.0 ended up costing about...

Making sure I purchased the correct coil for a 1996 5.7L

Idle set the timing to spec which I think will be 9 or 10 deg btdc depending on vortec or not Once timing is set remove the jumper. When you get it on the water and in fwd set the idle speed to spec which is around 650 rpm. Key to make sure the throttle cable is adjust such that the throttle...

seriously need some experts help on this one, no water exits manifolds

Correct I think the T has check balls with springs in it that either get closed by water pressure when the T stat opens or restrict the raw water flow so the appropriate amount is available to cool the block. Have seen some threads here where check balls get worn etc and too much raw water goes...

seriously need some experts help on this one, no water exits manifolds

Yes but I would not replace the plastic distribution between 7,11, & 19 housing with same OEM plastic. I think @Bt Doctur developed a way to sweat copper plumbing fittings together to replace it. You would just need to connect hose 7 to water inlet of t housing and by removing the elbow that...

seriously need some experts help on this one, no water exits manifolds

By removing hose 19,22,23 and the T that feeds them off 7&11 they eliminated the constant cold water feed to the risers. If you are only feeding the manifolds vs manifolds and risers separately, you dont use the restrictor gasket. ad was suggesting go back to the two hose system thermostat...

    1987 4.3l 205 high oil pressure

Agreed clearances are too tight which wont hold up very long.

seriously need some experts help on this one, no water exits manifolds

I think he will need a way to get raw water up to the right hand side of this housing , which is different than where it goes now. Certainly not impossible but will take some creative hosing

3 or 4 blade prop for H190 SS.

Generally of same pitch and blade configuration (size and cup) you will see less WOT rpm with a 4 blade than a 3 blade. That is why it is generally recommended to decrease pitch when going from 3 to 4 blade. Generally performance wise you will see an increase in holeshot, stern lift , and...

    1987 4.3l 205 high oil pressure

Strange they would send a HV oil pump if the engine wasn't set up for it.... Would verify the relief AD is speaking of, i think with out the remote filter it is in the Oil Filter adapter/threaded piece that attaches to the block

    How much trim?

A lot of folks will say don't run it in trailer range but I've been doing it for 40 years... and my neighbors too

3 or 4 blade prop for H190 SS.

Depends on the 4 blade . On my old boat I ran a 19" three blade for cruising and 17" for skiing. I used michigan votex 4 blades which came in even pitches - ended up at same rpms with a 18 4 blade and 16" 4 blade respectively. These didn't have as much bite as the Revolution 4- 21" I run on...

    How much trim?

I have had several boats in the same shallow cove (23-27" deep at end of dock) for many years. So basically I am forced to use the trailer button to trim essentially all the way up (7/8 out or so) just to get it in and out of the hoist, plus 7 min of idle speed out to deeper water. Its a great...

    1987 4.3l 205 high oil pressure

Trying to push more volume through same passages requires more pressure Just curious - How much looser do you run the clearances in this case? Does this provide better longevity at high rpm?

    1987 4.3l 205 high oil pressure

HV pump is not needed. Might also be worth popping a bearing cap and checking clearances. Either the pump has too much capacity and or wrong spring or the clearances are too tight. Try the std volume pump and see what you get. This has some points made in question area below the pump specs...

seriously need some experts help on this one, no water exits manifolds

Right would think something is wrong as the check balls feed risers constantly, someone must have mixed and matched parts . Is there any advantage to warm manifolds vs cold ones with constant flow ?

    Stalls on acceleration under load

I had to chisel my rotor off did not use loctite to put new one on… You may be able to get the bowl top off with out screwing up the gaskets, you need to clean inside passages not just spray power tune down the bores At least you can adjust float to see if that cures it while waiting on kit

    Trim limit switch

Trim limit switch plugs into the trim pump harness at the pump. Trim indicator sender plugs into engine harness to get sent up to the helm this is for a complete merc setup. Was the entire omc set up torn out or do you have some mix and match

Bought a new long block and wondering about the coupling and gimbal bearing.

Nice to see the project coming together after all this time. Nice clean install with the factory brackets . Would be interested to hear what kind of AFR you are getting. I'm going to be installing mine this weekend. I put a phenolic 1/2" or maybe 1" spacer under my carb last summer to help with...
