There is NO ADJUSTMENT feature on the shift rod connector at the oval plate.----No adjustment there.----There is adjustment at the shift lever.---And is this motor a secret ?----Model # is ?
Yes-----If shift rod was turned during the water pump repair the shift will be out of adjustment..------Failure to correct the shift rod adjustment can be expensive.
You are right some boats are built with cheap materials.----Even saw a boat with particle board for stringers.----I cut grass with a 1967 Lawnboy -----I am fixing up a 40 year old boat ---Action Marine 17-----I have removed all the cheap plywood and going with West System and composite...
The colour tells me it is a 1967 model.----Only year that used that green !----You will need a working generator in order to run that electric shift motor.-----Those electric shift lower units are very good and reliable.----I am one of a few that have that opinion on the electric...
Yes essentially the same in 71 , 72 and 73.-----Pull the flywheel and inspect the coils.-----If they are original they will be cracked and require replacement.----Install a new water pump impeller be fore you launch the boat.
The elegantly simple way is to do a spark check.-----Does spark jump a gap of 7/16" on a test device , yes or no ?-----And how do you suspect " weak spark " on your motor ?
I would fix this ----Check the shift rod and connector now.----Install a new water pump impeller too.----Then you are ready for the lake.-----That motor does NOT have overheat warning or a " too hot " shutdown feature.----It will run till it is destroyed !
I would first remove lower unit and check shift rod height.----And if you just got this motor you should install a new water pump impeller.-----Install a new impeller about every 5 years.
Yes.-----just pull up on the lower shift rod ( turn the prop ) and bring the upper shift rod down as far as it will come down.----The notch on the shift rods MUST line up with the hole before you put the bolt in.----Shifting will be correct when you do it this way !!
Start with a compression test , post the numbers.-----There should be no reason for spending beer tokens on new carburetors !-----Is oil injection in service / bypassed / oil output tested ?----Time to do some simple trouble shooting.
