You must have them mounted somewhere they dont go. If the old pre-drilled holes match up. Or was there a border on the ends of the old seat boards, I dont know. Can you just add a i inch or whatever to the seat boards. I would do them last to see if you come up a bit short going the other way. I almost mounted my front panels in the holes for the windshield then had to correct them. That would have made the front short on my boat

Where do you get it from?

I buy it right from their site. Can't remember it off hand, but you can google either Coat it or Goop. Stuff works really well.

Re: 197? SS Inside Out Restoration (New Title)

Last night I was able to finally fit and install the bow seats and their carpet also the front panels for the consoles. Things went smooth, though I did have to re cut all 4 panels.... I decided to use screws rather than rivits for the bow seat support and for the front console panels. After seeing how loose everything was up front before tear down I decided that screws might be the best choice.

I also had a chance to assemble and install one of the back to back seats! It really starts to look like a usable craft once the seats start going in! I have to say, for only $160 they sure do look and feel good, only time will tell if they hold up?

The plan is to use carpet. I tried FRP but that effort ended almost before it began lol

Boats lookin good. Wished I was as far along as you. Carpeting is nice on the sides, but side or deck, fishhooks are always stuck in it. I'm still waiting on fabric for mine tho, so there's a lot to be said about what's available.

Re: 197? SS Inside Out Restoration (New Title)

Ive made a lot of progress in the past week or so since Ive been away. To date all thats left is some minor wiring, the windscreen and the rear sliding doors! Im hoping to be out on the water this next weekend!!!!! Just in time for the start of some good weather! lol... Here are some recent photos. I have the seats installed, along with all the carpet. I fired up the motor and let it run for a good hour or so in the tank w/o any issues. I do need to get a tach, and replace the choke sol., but she runs very well!!!!!

Theres a guy just around the corner from my store who has thousands of boat parts in his garage, yard, neighbors yard ect. lol For years Ive been trading him pizza for boat parts for various different projects, I think I got that from him for a couple of larges. But you can find that style used on CL for about $20-30 or new in the stores for around $50.

All the boats Ive done have to have a SS wheel, its a cheap way to add a little class to the helm. Plus they have a good solid feel to them.

BTW I am NOT responsible for the "hack job" holes in the consoles... Thats the work of my friend who I bought the boat from. Creative he is, a craftsman he is not lol.

Looks Awsome Jbing. My councils have lots of holes in them to, I plan to cover them with vinyl before they get riveted back together.

I havent quite figured out what the plan is with the holes, they are the result of a half assed radio and speaker install. For now I may just cut some carpet and slap it on them. Id like to re install them however Im thinking the speakers will go in the side panels next to the lounge seats.

I primed the windscreen today and hope to get a coat of black on them tomorrow.

Re: 197? SS Inside Out Restoration (New Title)

Finally finished painting the windshield yesterday! If I would had known how much of a pain it was going to be I wouldnt have done it. But after all was said and done it really did turn out nice. I installed it on the boat today and the black really makes a differnece. Before it was a old, dinged and stained piece of aluminum... But now it looks new and really adds that extra touch! I also had a chance to get the rear sliders in as well. The future plan is to build one of those really cool bench seats like 86 did, but for now Id just like to get her out on the water and enjoy the rest of the season!!!!! My hope for this week is to have her splashed on Sunday and get any / all the kinks worked out for fathers day! I still have to tie up the running lights, install the fuel tanks and change the water pump. But all in all I think Sunday is totally possible. Wish me luck!! Here are some pics, ENJOY!!

BTW, after 7 coats of paint I somehow managed to miss the bottom of the windshield door........ Dont ask, I dont even know... Oh well, that can fall under the "Things to do over winter" list.

I painted mine the same. Even though I suck with a spray can and it isn't exactly perfect, it's a heck of a lot better than it was before! Looks good jbing.

Re: 197? SS Inside Out Restoration (New Title)

well tonight sucked! Pulled the LU to change the impeller and found the electric shift wires smashed against the water pump bolts! So bad that the wires were sliced... I still dont know how the damn thing still worked! Also, when I finally decided I wasnt going to thow the pile of junk in the garbage, I got around to the impeller. Well 3 water pump bolts came off just fine and the 4th one decided to sheer off at the base of the housing! So now I have to somehow drill and tap that damn thing and get it to line up right... And the icing on the cake was when I found out I am going to need a new water pump assembly AWESOME!!! I set the housing on the garage floor and it is just about as warped as the transom I pulled. At this point Im really starting to consider selling the rude and getting the '68 Merc 1000 I have up and running. It needs a rewire and its LU replaced, but those are a dime a dozen on CL. Plus Id never have to worry about loosing control of boat while on the water. Once again tonight sucked, sorry for the rant, but I needed to vent!
