I had some of my 1708 do the same thing....white blotches that no matter how much resin I hit it with it never went completly clear... It didn't seem to affect the bond and the other glass went over and stuck with no problem....

Maybe someone can shed some light on why biax will do that.....

Ok....I am starting to let out a sigh of relief! Hopefully I was just getting worried over nothing....so I know correctly...If I put a layer of glass down, then want to put another and do not do it immediately, how long should I wait etc before laying next glass.

If your not going wet on wet..... I wait about 20 minutes for the first lay up to kick before the second..... The second lay up will kick off a bit faster because it will be hot.

Transom permanently adhered to hull...

Doesn't look much different then GT1M's, well except for the iBoats shout out........

Humidity, temperature, whether the 'raw' fiberglass was ever exposed to moisture and how much you 'pre-wet' the 1st layer of wet-on-wet to then apply the 2nd layer all contribute to the kind of look your seeing.

Occasionally in lots of pix/vids of layups, some areas of glass refuse to go clear & are well stuck & well saturated.

Looks great! & not just from my place! But, I too am not an expert...... more of a former 'pert:)

It's not a time specific length of time. All those variables I mentioned that affect wet-out, also affect tack over. If you can do wet-on-wet, if not, hiat for it to kick enough to not be exothermic, and be just tacky, not wet.....20-30min I think is usual, but depends on MEKP% & that other stuff....

Howdy 93BL1800,

Just came aboard... haven't finished going through your thread, but it looks like you are doing an excellent job...

The pic that was posted of my newly installed transom has one minor difference from yours...I have only one layer of CSM on the face and Peanut butter around the edges...as you can see the PB around the edges is completely clouded up, but it is one solid mass...

It still hasn't gotten the first layer of 1708...

From what I have experienced, 1708 is a thicker product just by the nature of it being more of a structural type cloth than just for strength, like CSM...because of that, even though it may be perfectly saturated and adhered to the substrate, it can and does tend to appear "cloudy"...I am not an expert in this by any means, but I think you are A-OK...

I will be doing all of my tabbing and layering within the next few days, hopefully......and I'll report back in with my results...

In the mean time, keep up the great progress...

Best Regards,
GT1M

Re: 93 Bayliner 1800 Capri Outboard Restoration Project

Thanks GT.....I got a lot of looks good comments in my inbox so I am feeling a lot better about it. Was going to put another layer of csm and install transom today, but it looks like it will freeze tonight so will try Thursday.

@Rick....its all good....I tease my wife because she is so small compared to me! That kids movie Madagascar 2 has a song in it about the hippopotamus saying...he likes em big....he likes em chunky! So me being 6ft 270 it really hits home!!! Lol

Ok...I am on my phone so had to post the pic first. This transom did not look like this last night. There were no air bubbles in it at all...so I am trying to figure out what this white stuff is? I have already sanded and washed down with acetone...bonding appeared perfect while I was sanding....I was hoping to install transom today, but thought I should ask about this before putting in.

Had a good day...and a lot of luck! Got my outside stringers cut and dry fitted....lol...I did twice as much measuring after I cut the stringers than to actually cut them! Check out the progress.
