Help with 1995 9.9 Mercury sailmaster, they are all long shaft or long shaft +. My issue is getting shift linkage correct

If the it had a Rotating Shift Shaft then what I had said, could apply. However if it has a Shift Shaft that goes up and down, then ignore what I said. Spinning the Prop Clockwise in Forward, should give a Click Click Racheting sound, Counterclockwise should produce a Clunk, and no more...

    1991 20HP Evinrude no acceleration

Pull the Plugs. 40 yrs ago we had a 25 behaving like that. After going thru all kinds of checks/tests, we plug the plugs. We found one of them with something, likely a bit of Carbon, bridging the Gap. Removed it, put the plugs back in, and all was good. I doubt that engine has a "Slow Mode"...

Help with 1995 9.9 Mercury sailmaster, they are all long shaft or long shaft +. My issue is getting shift linkage correct

Are you sure you are getting F-N-R with the engine off? How did you verify it? If by chance you managed to misalign the upper and lower shift shafts, you might have F-F-N

Does my outboard have a thermostat.

I think the 2 cylinder 400/402 was the first Mercury to have a Thermostat. In 73 the 3 cylinder 65hp got one too

Trailer questions for vintage Glastron Tri-hull

Trailer questions for vintage Glastron Tri-hull

My Cousin had the same boat, it rode very nice for a 15ft. I don't know what yr it was, but the Motor was a 72. It too, was on a Calkins trailer, and the Rollers at the Transom weren't a very good fit, and due to design, not Adjustable.

    1974 evinrude 6hp coughing

BTW cleaning the Carb is not getting a can of Gumout or other carb cleaner, and spraying down the Throat. All that gets you is a nice clean throttle valve. You need to take it apart, including the disc above the Idle ports, and then clean it. A replacement disc is included in the Carb Kit.

    Quit on the Water!

if there is Oil on the Armature Plate, it is usually coming from the upper Crankshaft Seal. If Oil is getting out, air is getting in and causing a Leaning of the fuel mix for the top Cylinder.

    175 2 stroke wont rev past 2k

When you lost the spark the engine and the Switch Boxes were warm. When you tested them they had likely cooled down. Get the Wife's Hair Dryer, heat the Switchboxes up for several minutes, and see if the spark vanishes. Other parts, like the Trigger are also susceptible to heat. The carbs on the...
